Message #120449
Hello, anybody who can help me out on this one? I'm finishing off a project: Plain popmusic (bass, drmus, acc gtrs, vocals, etc) recorded on 24 analog; put on hard disk via LAP and MOTU's 896 and 828 interfaces. I recently installed LAP 5.3. I'm about to begin the mixes and I don't know what gear to use. I used to mix (when I recorded on my tascam analog 8track) on my Soundcraft Digital 328. But with the plug-in options in LAP I'm tempted to do the entire mix internally... (that means on my Powerbook platinum 667) What would I need to do the mix on the powerbook, without making it all too heavy for the processor? Or does nothing compare to the calculation power of a hardware digital mixer? Hope to hear from you soon.

You'll probably have to "print" some FX. Try to put heavy CPU FX like reverbs across a bus so you don't end up with 2 or 3 instances of the same FX. Also if you have any eternal hardware outboard gear it can be bussed in to Logic now. The key is probably "keep it simple". Use your lack of resources as a plus not a minus. Try a "dry sounding" mix for instance. Use eq and panning to create space. Also Logic's Tape & stereo delays are useful for sitting things back. Have fun and remember..."if it sounds good, it is good". Clive Young
