Subject: [LUG] [LAW] Having trouble setting up AMT8 under Win XP
Message #120437
I seem to be having one HELL of a time setting up my AMT8 under Win XP. One of the very few things for three months that caused Win XP to crash was trying to install the USB driver last night!!! After giving up trying to install the "lastest" USB driver from the Emagic site, I installed the "Serial" driver from the CD-ROM that came with the AMT8. These drivers only went up to Win 2K, not XP, but there should not be "rhat" much difference. Unitor Control can not "see" the AMT8. Things went smoothly when installing USB under Win 98 before I built my P4 Win XP compter. No way in hell am I going back to Win 98!!!!!! Any ideas? Anyone?!?!?!? What the hell "obvious" thing am I seeming to be missing?!?!? Gotta figure this one out before installing Logic Audio 5 (Silver) and Cubase SX!!

(Hit "Start", select "run", enter sysedit. Close the files that appear until you see one that says "win.ini"). Find a section headed [Logic]. In there, delete every single driver that there is. Find a section headed [Unitor8]. In there, again delete every single driver that there is. If you use it, then also find a section headed [SoundDiver] and again delete every single driver that there is. Reboot your machine. You should now be able to install the AMT8 drivers as per the instructions. Use the Windows 2000 ones. Step 2 If that doesn't do the trick, then repeat the entire exercise above to again delete all drivers just in case any were in fact added. Additionally to that, go to "Hardware Devices". (Right-click "My Computer", select "Properties", go to the "Hardware tab", click on "Device Manager"). Go to the section headed "Sound, Video and Game Controllers". Click the little plus sign to open it up. Delete everything headed "Emagic". Reboot your computer. Again, try installing the drivers. Step 3 If that STILL doesn't work then you will have to try deleting the USB port. Do you feel brave? No biggie, really. Just go to Device manager again. Go to the section headed "Universal Serial Bus Controllers". Before doing anything else, make sure you have the installation CD's for anything listed there that is not automatically found by WindowsXP. If you feel like continuing, delete everything there. When you reboot WindowsXP, it should automatically reinstall your controllers, and then you can try to proceed from there. That's pretty much what I did some time ago, and step 3 eventually got me going again. Good luck. Kool Musick Keep Musick Kool

Thanx Kool Musick I'll try the "Win.ini" route. Additionlly check this out. This is what I have: C:WindowsINFEMGICUS5.inf C:WindowsSystem32DriversEMGICUSB.SYS Is this what you have? When I fire up Untior control does not seem to see the AMT8. In the Task bar, on the lower right there is an icon titled "Safely Remove Hardware. If I "right click", I see "emagic MIDI device" I go to "Properties", I go to the "Drivers" tab. There are "Driver Details", "Update Driver", "Roll Back Driver", and "Uninstall". If I hit "Uninstall", (to try and start from the beginning to re-install everything)this is causes Win XP to COMPLETELY shut-down, and the system re-boots!!!!!!!! I have ONLY seen ONE other thing to make XP crash, that was doing a Norton Virus Scan on a funky ZIP disk. OTHER than THAT Win XP is ROCK SOLID!!!! What the HELL is going on?!?!? I've only been using Win XP for three months, so I am still in a learning mode!!!!
