Hi. I was referred to this group by someone at the apple.com forums, this
was
my question..
I think i'm ready to take the plunge and buy a full featured audio/midi
system.
My preference is to start working in OSX.
I'm familiar with Pro Tools Free in OS9, and it's pretty good. Now i'm using
Cubasis VST in OS9, and it's good too but doesn't have the automated mixing
i'm used to in PTFree.
Many people seem to be saying that since apple bought emagic, and
developed core audio that Logic is the way to go. I've been reading up on
logic, and it seems like a cool program. But i guess Cubase just released a
OSX version, but some people think it's not going to be as stable as logic
regarding automation. And now pro tools is eventually going to release an
OSX version....
I'm only going to buy one software package, and i want to make the right
choice. I don't know enough about it to compare the features specifically, i
just
want to have a professional system. It's just myself, i do mainly synth
music
and hope to take advantage of midi, plus i'd like to have audio for vocals
and
acoustic guitar.
I'm geting the itch to just buy a software package, i'm just not sure what
to buy,
these things are pretty expensive.
Could you offfer any advice? Thanks!

Wow. I gotta say, choosing a sequencer is really based on personalized
choice. They all have their quirks. You should try to find someone in
your area with each of the programs you are considering and log some
hours on each. Try to actually set up a session in the manner you
normally work. Watch someone who can work the program efficiently and
see if it fits your logic (ouch...sorry). Write down the snags as you
hit them.
Maybe make a complete list of the things you value in the programs you
already know. Don't take anything for granted. Include the things you
would like to be able to do and can't. Include the things you can't
work without having. Include the things that you hate too. That would
be good info to post and you would likely get some honest answers.
In my own experience, I have worked with PT, Cubase and Logic (among
others) and spent a lot of time spinning my wheels before I moved to
Logic. Cubase, for example just didn't suit my way of thinking. But I
have friends with the exact opposite experience. They are both powerful
programs capable of doing serious work.
As for OSX, I expect they will all move there soon.
best, Nathan

Thanks for the advice, Nathan. It is a pretty big decision to make,
i agree alot more research is necessary! :)

Last week I was working with a friend that has wrote a few song with Cubase.
The goal was to mix them with Logic.
He was surprised of the relybility of Logic.
The way that Cubase handle Input object is quite nice but you loose your
setting if you close your song
