Subject: [GEN] Logic, Protools and Mackie HDR
Message #120420
From: Gio <gio@...> >So I have to get a ProTools session into logic and an HDR session too. >the guys want to swap each others sessions, meaning get the ProTools >session into Mackie and vice versa. >I guess I should use OMF for the tools session, but I have no idea >about the Mackie deal. >Should I lightpipe it in? >Is there a tool to convert Mackie sessions to Logic/OMF? get other opinions... but mine is to go lightpipe all the way. 1. this will allow you to preserve stereo tracks (Logic's OMF import treats everything as mono and Left/Right channels cannot be relinked in Logic afterwards to rebuild a stereo pair - a major pain) 2. it will preserve automation - if desired (if not, turn off automation for the transfer). OMF does not import fader automation (in Logic). 3. it will ensure that you "actually" get everythin from the orifinal session (i've had OMF sessions that made some pre-emptive editing decisions for me) more thoughts: Since the HDR is fairly portable, it can do all the leg work. take it to the protools studio and transfer everything from protools to the HDR and visa versa - then bring the HDR to your studio to transfer the works into your system. in order to optimise disk usage and minimise amount of data to backup: 1. workout the tempo/tempomap for each song. 2. then "strip silence" for each track 3. then "optimise" each track. remember to give yourself handles for safety. good luck, phil strong
