Subject: usb midi interfaces.
Message #8200
Anyone want to recomend a USB MIDI Interface for LAP Mac? I only need two in and two out at the moment. I don't want to to spend for an 8x8 unless I know it is rock solid reliable. It will be a year before I have modules to justify an 8x8 midi interface anyway. Thanks

I've had good luck with the Midiman Midisport USB 4x4 from M-Audio. It's got 2 ins and 2 outs and works flawlessly on my G5 with LAP 6.3.2.

The MOTU drivers have a long standing issue with open ended sysex messages that make it incompatible with some devices. Emagic Infoweb has some more details about it. I had an MT4 that worked for a few months and then croaked. I've had a MOTU Fastlane that has been reliable and perfect for years now including working with control surfaces. My MOTU MIDI Express is still a great unit and I think there's hope that MOTU may fix the drivers some year. -ck
