So I guess if you want to use OSX/ Logic 5.3 and don't have one of the very
few audio interfaces with a driver, you are crap out of luck, right?

No, you merely have to wait until the hardware manufacturer
comes out with OSX drivers. Or, you can use LogicX with
the built in Mac soundcard for the time being. In fact, I
know one guy who is doing this now (composing stuff using
LogicX and temporarily using the Mac's built in soundcard
just for playback), and will simply do the final mix when
Digi001 drivers for OSX are released, or use Logic-OS9
instead (songs are compatible between Logic-OS9 and LogicX
and vice versa).
Did anybody really think that the entire audio world would
simultaneously release an OSX version of their products all
on the same day? Did somebody really think that on August 31
nothing in the audio world would work on OSX, and then on
Sept 1 everything would work?
