Yes: This machine should fly on XP and handle Logic with ease. Why don't u
"advanced" install XP on a different freshly formatted partition?
Disable
ACPI
(as documented in any Win XP audio tweaks page with the F5 Key - switch to
Standard PC) on install or better still disable ACPI in your BIOS. Once u
have
done this the only necessary tweak within XP is to set the machine to
prioritise
"background services" (again well documented). If this still fails
I would
suggest there is a fault somewhere.
Download SiSoft Sandra and run the benchmark tests. This might guide you as
to
where your performance is disappearing.

All this is really only a few hours work and it will reap massive dividends
to
have things correct from the start.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. I am in the process of backing up
everything right now in order to do a fresh XP pro install tonight. I have
coffee, soda, chips and cable TV to keep me from going to sleep or nuts. The
main theme seems to be disabling ACPI. After that, my suspicions will turn
to the MOTU 2408. Hopefully the ACPI thing will work. If all else fails I
guess it's time for a new soundcard. Okay, I'm goin' in....see you all on
the other side. :)
