Yes, but isn't 10.0--->10.1.5 a free upgrade?

actually, not. They seem to have a 10.x upgrade program, whereas 10.x.y
are free.

I couldn't find any such upgrade. You can upgrade to 10.0.4, and then the
next upgrade is from 10.1 to 10.1.1. I couldn't find anything to go from
10.0xxx to 10.1. I'll keep looking though. Even though I'm not ready to
switch yet, it would be fun to check it out.

I believe 10.1 was initially a free upgrade if you stopped by an
Apple Store to pick up a CD, or via a $19.95 'shipping & handling'
charge for a mailorder upgrade. Not sure if that's still the case.

The 10.1 upgrade was only issued on CD - available free from
some Mac Dealers on production of your 10.0 proof of ownership
coupon. It was also available for $19.99 (shipping & handling)
from Apple.
Mac OS X 10.1: Chart of Available Software Updates on Apples
site now redirects to the 10.2 Jaguar page if you click on
information.
I suggest you try your local Apple dealer - at the time of the 10.1
release I seem to remember that some dealers were burning
copies on production of the coupon to meet demand.
If you are serious about OS X then I'd go for 10.2. It performs
substantially better than 10.1.5 and starting now it is likely to
become the pre-requisite for most software. Credit to Emagic for
releasing a version that runs on 10.1.5
Stuart.

I think you have to order the CD. I'm not certain if it's still
available...

Though that cd was distributed more or less for free by apple. You
could order it for shipping and handling, but all the apple
distributers around here (NYC) just burned copies of it on request.
Apple, for once, wasn't too strict about it because it required an
existing installation of OS X to install. See if you can't find a disk
or two at a dealer around you. If not, mail me privately, and I'll see
if I can hook you up with a provider here.
