I see for instance www.audiomidi.com advertises a so-called "Academic
Package" of Logic Audio Platinum at a lower price. Is this package the
same as the regular version. or is there any 'catch' with it?
Specifically, I would like to know if the LAP Academic Package can be
upgraded to OSX version?

I bought the Logic Platinum academic package earlier this year. It's
exactly the same package as the "competitive upgrade" -- that is,
it
has the install CD, dongle, and 2 tiny manuals, *but* you then have
to send off your registration info to Emagic before they will send
you the full manual (including a photocopy of your student ID).
That's the only catch.
If you buy the same package as a 'competitive upgrade', instead of a
copy of your student ID you'd have to send in the master install CD
for the other sequencer you are 'upgrading' from, e.g. Cubase, DP,
Sonar, etc.
Either way, since it *is* the full blown Platinum version of Logic
you can download the LAMP 5.3 upgrade and use it in OS X without
having to pay anything extra. You do this from day 1 once you buy it -
- the only thing you'll be waiting on is the full manual, which will
take a little bit of time to arrive.

Jeremy, thanks for the info. I wonder if this is available to
'international' users? (I'm in Norway).
Greetings
