I'm a bit confused by the difference between Platinum and Gold. Emagic
implies that Platinum is really just for ProTools users. Is this the only
difference? Their comparison chart also shows 24 bit support for Platinum
only, but their ads contridict this. Also, is Platinum Verb something
wonderful
that only comes with Platinum?
Thanks,
Andy

Gold V5 has 24 bit support.

The comparison chart shows situation pre V5.
PlatVerb comes with Platinum only but I doubt it's the last reverb
you'll ever want, knowing SilverVerb and GoldVerb. Platinum has some
more VST effects too. But chances are that Gold will suit your needs
pretty good.

ProTools/TDM support inside Platinum is only one of many things
that are better about Platinum.
Platinum will always be developed before Gold. Also, Gold lacks certain
plugins (example: Platinum Verb) that Platinum has. And there are
many other smaller (and not so small) features. The comparison chart
is currently only for Version4, but it gives you a good idea. For every
feature that is added to Gold5 (that didn't exist in Gold4), you can be
sure
that there are features added to Platinum5 that will *not* be added to
Gold5.
In other words, all the versions get better as time goes along, but
Platinum gets more better (how's that for grammar?) or better
yet, bestest. If you can afford it, always get Platinum. It's not as if
the difference in money amounts to a hill of beans in the grand scheme
of things. For example, it's not like making a decision between
ProTools LE and ProTools TDM (many thousands of US$ difference)
