The drivers for the 828 and OSX do not support the Lightpipe interface yet,
I
understand they are coming tho.
I have been using the Mercury series drives from Other World Computing,
and have been able to manage around 50 tracks of 48K 24Bit audio on a
Mac G4 733 with Logic 4.8.1, and only about 25ish on my 667 TiBook. I do
get well over 50 on my PT 5.1.* with 6 farm cards.
MacAddict had an article several months ago, a little shoot out with
some firewire drives, and the OWC was square in the middle. The one drive
that hammered it performance wise was like double the cost. I will have
to look for the article.
I might have a look at the drives from the guys at dageek.com
http://www.dageek.com/sales/default.html, I know them and they make some
pretty slammin' stuff. For a while they had these killer drivers that they
designed and sold. Different caching was the real secret I believe. However
there was some copyright problem - and I don' t know the current status. I
imagine they(the drivers) still ship with the drives, but are no longer sold
separately.
