Has anyone had any experience with configuring Logic 5.2 to work
with the CM Automation MotorMix control surface?
I purchased one yesterday with the impression that the two would work
together. I downloaded a PDF version of the manual from the CM
Automation web site which is 95% written for configuring it with Pro
Tools and less than a page about using it with other software
essentially equating to "follow the instructions in the software."
I have been unsuccessful in finding ANY information regarding the
configuration of this device with Logic on Emagic's web site.
After much web, user group and newsgroup searching, the only thing I
could find was an obscure reference to a user-developed 4.x
environment. I downloaded and imported this but had no idea how to
make it work or if I should actually be using it in Logic 5.
I have not been able to find anything in Logic's online help or
manual that explains how to configure control surfaces. If I try the
Options -> Preferences -> Control Surfaces -> Scan menu option, the
result is an attempt to scan for a Logic Control/XT (which of course
fails). (Sinde note, it only seems to scan port 1 of my AMT 8 - the
MotorMix is on port 6) The "Add" option does not work and
selecting
help on the "scan failure" dialog does nothing at all.
As a side note, setting this device up in Sonar 2.0 took all of 7
seconds and was completely transparent. The two immediately
communicated with each other. I expected this same ease in setting
it up with Logic, but so far I'm quite disappointed. I would prefer
not to get a Logic Control primarily because of space limitations but
at this point, I'm not sure I have a choice.
Does anyone have any advice? Am I wasting my time with this unit?
Any help would be appreciated.
John

Hi,
I found a reference to SoundDiver and the MotorMix here:
http://www.emagic.de/english/products/studiotools/sd/cm_automation.html
but that doesn't help you with with Logic...
Obviously, they are pushing Logic Control at present. With all the new
things going on with TBA and the older OBA, there may or may not be
additional new complications with using external third party controllers
such as the MotorMix for a while yet.

Thanks, Danny.
I was able to get Sound Diver to recognize the MotorMix but couldn't
figure out anything else from there as there is minimal online help on
this module in Sound Diver and nothing in regards to making it work
with Logic 5.
I realize Emagic is promoting Logic Control right now, but I
also thought they'd support the primary players in the controller
field as other sequencers do. Especially since the MotorMix has been
around for a couple of years. Thanks anyway. I may just have to
return it and either figure out how to make room for a Logic Control
or do without.
Regards,
John
