I'm kind of new to it myself, but I have done this so here goes. Just record
enable an audio track on the arrange page. You can name it "loop"
or whatever
by control clicking the audio track (at least on a mac). Double click the
track in arrange and it should bring up a mixer or "audio
environment". BTW
make sure the output of your mixer or keyboard or amp or whatever is plugged
into the input of your soundcard or audio interface. Play the loop and
adjust
the level so that it peaks at about 0db but doesn't clip. You can add
effects
at this point or not. When you are happy with the sound and the levels,
press
record. Logic will create an audio file. Oh, another thing. Before you
record, set your recording path by going to audio menu and clicking on set
audio path. Save the audio recording to the same folder as your project. I
think you are all set. Good luck.

wouldnt i want to record first on a midi channel instead of an audio
channel?

While trying out some of the many new features in v5.2, I'm finding
some miracles & a few problems:
1) The use of the +/- keys to inc/dec values in plugins is fantastic!
It doesn't work in 3rd party VSTi's or plugins. Must this be fixed by
the plugin manufacturers or by Emagic?
2) The next/previous setting function is a life-saver. ES1, ES2 and
other Emagic instruments now scroll through presets!!! Yahooooooo!
Thank you!!!!
In EXS24, it moves through the *settings*, but not through .exs
instruments. It would be nice to be able to add this at some time.
3) The Mute tool for Matrix & Event windows is an excellent addition.
But why no Mute tool in the Score window too? The notes are greyed
out - one wants to select and mute/unmute them here as well.
Finally (for now), the instrument icons remain the same as they were
in 1995! I wonder if we'll ever get an update here?
Thank you for a superb upgrade!

There are keycommands for next and previous instruments for EXS

There are seperate key commands for next instrument/previous
instrument for the EXS24. Do a find for next / previous in the key
commands window.

On no 3rd party plugin or on some?
Maybe they are taking over the key commands?

there is also a dedicated "next exs instrument" keycommand

Is there a way to turn the audio scrub off??
Also, I have noticed in 5.2 if I have an audio instrument track selected
then try to cut audio with the scissor on another audio track I get
immediate ASIO error, never had problems with ASIO before....

"Song settings > MIDI options > scrub with audio in arrange"
(or similar).

Maybe it's because you have lots of effects on your audio object for
"track
1"?

this has probably been discussed..
am about to install my logic 5 upgrade..
can you run earlier versions of logic (ie version 4.8) with the xs key? as
I am obviously about to send back my original dongle and CDs etc, I want the
security of being able to run the last version of logic that I had, in case
something goes wrong.
please say this is possible.. I think we legitimate users have to jump
through enough hoops for emagic to register us, the least they could do is
not take functional legacy software off us (which crack users get to keep)
in case we need it if something goes wrong..

You can do this only on the Mac. For technical programming reasons
they were not able to make the XSKey work with v4 for Windows.
However if you are using Windows, if you have (or if you can
purchase, from Emagic or on Ebay) a backup v4 dongle, you only have
to send 1 dongle in to get the final codes for your XSKey, so you
would still have an extra v4 dongle which would run LAW v4...

On a Mac - Yes, on a PC - No (I think). Well, at least I know it's yes on a
mac. You need the xs key extension for logic 4 found at:

Anyone know how to put 15:1 tuplet over a single beat.
So it would be 15 64th notes over a single beat.
I can't do it. I'm using the tuplet tool but it ain't happening.
Thanks,
Aron
