No. You could run Logic off a zip disk if you wanted to without any
penalty!

Huh? If you're running OS 9 (even if OS X is installed on the same
partition) then nothing's changed so far as OS 9 or Logic is
concerned...it's just another bunch of files taking up space ;-)
That said, so far as OS 9 and OS X goes it's simply advisable (or
preferable) from a maintenance point of view to install them on separate
partitions (though they will happily co-exist on the same partition and
are designed to be able to do so) since this makes it much easier to
wipe a partition and start again for either OS and so on...

Sorry, I feel I should point out what I read on the Powerlogix (G4 Upgrade
cards) site:
http://www.powerlogix.com/
"If you are using both OS 9 and OS X:
Apple recommends loading both OS X and OS 9 into the same, first (less than
8 gig) partition."
I'm sure you can install the OS' on separate partitions, but Apple does
apparently advise otherwise.

Apple has been trying to train us into using the documents and
applications folders for quite some time. For this very reason I think.
I know this setup is required for certain features to be available, but
i can't remember now what they are. Anyone ?

In OSX, some apps, and the updaters, expect Apple-supplied
apps to be in the "Applications" or "Utilities" folder
as installed.
Some stuff won't work if they're moved out of there.
As far as I can tell, the "Documents" folder is just where things
like Mozilla spew their setup info, and where installer logs get
dumped. Personally, there's no way I want that mixed up with my
documents, and no way I want my work on the same partition as
my system.
I think the main reason for the "one partition" advice is just so
Apple support will have an easier time of it...
Whoops, getting OT here, sorry.
