Hey all. Getting to where I want to use key commands
for more & more things. The default state of my key
commands has several functions defined by keystroke
(or keystroke combinations), but most
commands/functions are undefined.
Is there a full set of keycommands -- whether by
emagicapple or by one of you powerusers -- that I can
download & use instead of creating all of my own
(which is proving to be a mind@#$%).
Thanks y'all.
TiBook + MOTU828 + LAMP 4.8.1

i think 30$ plus shipping for a overlay is pretty tuff.
can anyone give a recommendation on powerkeys ?
(i have been working with my own keykommands for years now but everytime
someone different is working at our studio the drama begins. and i
somethimes whish the keycommands would NOT be freely configurable.
please emagic think of a clever solution to multiusersettings.)

The key commands are stored in your "Logic 5 Preferences" file.
So, when you go to another studio (or someone comes to
yours), take that file with you on a floppy, or email it, or
something.
Make a backup of the local Logic prefs file (important!)
Then use the "Import Key Commands" menu command in the
Key Commands window to import the key commands from the
"foreign" Logic prefs file.
When you need the old ones back, import them again from the
local prefs file backup you made...
It's fairly quick to switch between two different sets of
keycommands this way. Though a very useful addition would be
to define keycommand "sets" and be able to switch sets with a
keycommand.

I'll second that as a feature request.
I believe Logic should be able to save various kinds of "sub"
files
with key command settings, event lists, channel strips and so on.

I know it's not an instant switchover, but you can save a copy of
Logic's prefs to it's own folder somewhere before the interlopers come
in. Put your own name on the folder. Then, when they change everything,
also save a copy of the changed prefs to another folder [with their name
on it]. Then all you have to do is 'import keycommands' each time the
helm changes hands. There is no need to reboot, this can be done
mid-session.
[I'm talking MacOS here, so I'm not 100% sure if it's the same on Win]

Recipe for a 'circular structure' ? [kidding :)]

I can think of ways to make the process quicker and to assign a
set of commands to a key using QuicKeys and AppleScript, but it
would still require using the prefs file and making a backup.
It would be great if there was a folder in the Logic folder called
"KeyCommands", "save" & "load" commands in
the key
commands window (as text files?), and the ability to load
multiple keycommand files and switch between them on the fly.
Maybe even be able to load a particular set just for a specific
window-type, so one user could work in the Arrange using their
commands, another in the Matrix using theirs, etc.
If wishes were fishes, eh...?

The powerkeys option doesn't appeal, since I'm using a
TiBook, and their keyboard overlays are, as far as I
can tell, just for regular keyboards. Also, it's 30
bux. I guess I'd buy powerkeys if they had a laptop
equivalent.
Does anybody have their own "powerkeys" that they'd
like to donate? Dunno if that's a presumptuous
request...

Which do you think would take longer learning a foreign set of
keycommands from scratch, or making the assignment decisions yourself
and committing to memory that way?
I don't think there would be much difference in the overall effort
required , in the long run.

don't want much some folk do they ?
let someone else do all the work
BTW - are you a registered user ?
hi Dave,
another Dave here as it goes........ I would say that there is no quick
way of diciding what keys u want to assign to what (or learning them), but
it soley depends on what u use most I guess.
I tend to use key commands more than the mouse (my mouse is prone to bad
mouse days). Simple things like moving left/right in various windows with
the arrow keys makes life (arranging audio for example) far quicker. Then
using the ctrl key or the alt key along with the arrow keys allows me to
move objects in arrange by bar/tick/format......etc........
What do u use most Dave - thats the thing..... my key commands change almost
on a weekly basis - depending what phase Im in the process of the song Im
doing at the time....if ya know what I mean....
see ya Dave, take care Dave.......

Actually , it was Robert who was asking the question :) [I was just
putting it to him that it probably wouldn't cost him much more time if
he assigned the keycommands himself.]
cheers

Hi all,
......again Dave Eager, sorry for getting the name wrong.......(Rob?)
I have only a small system, PC - Windows 98SE, Athlon 550; 20 GB IDE HD and
a SoundBlaster LiveII soundcard - I use Logic Audio 4.8.1.
I have 2 questions. The first is related to Logic running with Reason using
Rewire.
1.When I use Reason as a sound module from Logic there is a delay (something
to do with latency guess). This only happens when using Rewire. However,
when I start Reason first and Logic second (the useal linking of software
via midi clock sync) everything works fine. I've checked all the settings
within Logic that you can and still no joy.
2. I have DirectX 8.1 installed on my system but in Logic's device setup I
cant select it (its stuck on MME - nightmare!!!) - or even see it for that
matter.......Anyways, thanks in advancefor any advise/help any of you may be
able to give me........
David
