I have two things to say about this recent situation.
1) Class Action Lawsuit
I will personally join any cause and/or seek my own means to make
this happen. Any Windows user who invested money in this product
should take up arms against Apple/Emagic. Yeah we can use the
sfotware as-is, but we paid good money for the "promised" features
to
be released. All buyers entered into a good-faith agreement with
Emagic to deliver the requested functionality. Even Emagic employees
discussed this agreement, making the Emagic (and now Apple) liable
for the agreement. I want my money back or a serious credit towards
product not-soon to be discontinued.
2) Cubase SX
Well, I was on the fence with this, but I like the Emagic products
and was willing to stick it out. We will now see what dedication and
support buys you, absolutely nothing! This is now the chance for
Steinberg to pick up the ball and gain a faithful customer base.
All I can say is screw Emagic (and Apple), they screwed you!

I just Purchased the EVOC20 days ago and have not received my keys
yet. My confirmation email from emagic was garbled and concerned me.
Plus there is a discrepency in the registration process. The
literature that came with the EVOC20 says to register online and not
to send in the CD but The online registration says I should. I can
not get Emagic USA on the phone. I am planing to contact AudioMidi
who I purchased this from and see if they can help with getting a
refund or what???
This also goes for Sound Diver. I just bought the package months ago
from Guitar Center.
How about my Unitor8MkII I purchased months ago from AudioMidi
because of its support under Win2000 and it's integration with Logic
and Sounddiver.
This also goes for The Logic 5 Plat update I Finally received after
signing up for(giving EmagicUSA a credit card number directly) and
waiting months for an official release date that was missed. I Just
Installed the Logic 5 update in March of 2002!!! IMO this was
another way of keeping my decision not to move to another software
package and anticipations even higher. I originally purchased Logic
4 in 2000. I purchased Logic because of its fantatic capabilities
and promises of future capabilities "pro" quality capabilities.
The
number one reason was the fact of it's multiplatform capabilities.
I continued to stay with Logic and have spent a long time now wasted
learning this package.
That Time and now my insecurity with this product, The hardware
issues and design of my studio in jepordy, and moreover a very
discusted oppinion of Apple right now has me ready to follow up on a
Class Action Lawsuit without a doubt. However; I will give Apple /
Emagic a very very vey short period to "rectify" or refund my
investments in full (and a refund will not remedy my time) or Port
my applications to full Mac releases with a new and programed key
for logic5 plat/EVOC20 plus make it possible for me to have one of
Apples properly configured machines that works as well or better
than my current PC ( P4 512 megs of RDRAM Ultra 160SCSI interface
etc etc no low level G4 will compare and no I will not trade my PC
over for a Mac - I choose a PC as my platform and plan to keep it
exspecially for my windows based Native Instrument software) for no
if any minamal cost.
Intel went to hell and survived the 820 and Rdram fault after
replacing my motherboard and also including 128 megs of at the time
Extremely exspensive memory that should have been available. Apple
is a computer manufacturer And I see this as no different if not
even worse than that. Intel came through after a court order am I
correct? If Apple wants to consume the products I rely on and not
offer me a viable solution yes I will sue - protest - yes
practically wage war on apple without relent. Emagic not informing
its user base of such a "come on you didn't know this was even being
considered???" before making these purchases.
I have been betrayed, ripped off!!, and left to dry in one day.
before today I was both a Mac and PC enthusist. I wonder if Apple
does try to rectify this if I could ever trust them as a platform
developer and exscially a software application designer again.

Legally you have a viable solution....it is called Cubase or Cakewalk or
ProTools.

Again I sympathise with your plight but again this is what MS does all
the time and if your anger towards Apple is justified it ought to also
be 10 times as justified towards MS....just ask the Mac community who is
normally on the receiving end of such treatment.

I'm not Mac bashing by any means but I have to say.. its a bit ironic
hearing many people say that same thing you just did, but at the same
time hear just as many people suggest switching to a Mac...

I don't know what the motivation of other's suggestions are, but for
myself, we are all (or most of us) fans of Logic here or we wouldn't
have made the purchase in the first place. What I am suggesting is not a
switch to the Mac just for the sake of switching to the Mac, but that
there is a great potential here for Logic as an application and the
hardware associated with it, and all these Logic fans may want to
consider that door which is now open which was not there before. Yes it
will be a somewhat different Logic than before, but people may find it
is <gasp> greatly improved.
It is time for Logic users to stop considering the Mac as "just another
computer" that has no relevance to this application, because that is no
longer going to be the case. Logic is now stepping up to an integrated
hardware solution. There are a great many people who love that notion
(ProTools users). But it does cost more because the hardware is included
with the software. In this case, the great thing is the hardware is not
one dimensional. The same integrated DAW solution will also run an
integrated video editing solution (FCP), integrated DVD production
(DVDSP), compositing (whatever comes of shake) and if Apple keeps this
up....CAD design, CG effects generation.....all in one box. Plus all
your word processing, internet and other day to day tasks. You will
still have the option to use 3rd party apps if you so desire, but
imagine this one box which is an integrated hardware/software solution
to write your music, record your music, design your album art, edit your
concert video footage, add effects, master your DVD and design your
cover art for it, etc.
This is big for both Emagic and Apple. What PC users don't want to
swallow is their software only app is going to evolve to integrated
hardware. But it IS a step up for Logic.
To paraphrase an earlier quote of mine, regardless what platform the
software/hardware runs on, you have to appreciate the extent of
technology which will be put into the consumers hands if they really
want it.
Take care
