For it to be a flashback to that scenario, it would have to have been a case of Apple buys Fender (or some other guitar company). Apple understands software, and they are NOT going to let Emagic hang out to dry. On the Apple platform, Emagic is now going to get anything and everything it wants from Apple in the way of driver support, and this is going to have a dramatic impact on the quality, stability and power of the program. Emagic is now going to be sitting at the table when OS decisions are made. In contrast, Steinberg is a tiny mosquito buzzing in Microsoft's ear. Stand back. This is going to be a great partnership, and Logic is going to be an awesome application. That being said, I do sympathize with PC users being forced to make some sort of switch. That's never any fun. I WAS a former hard-core Opcode SVP user, and Gibson's scuttling of that company wrecked my life for a time. As a serious Mac devotee, I wonder what I would have done if instead of just killing Opcode, it had been acquired by Microsoft, and there was a promise of dramatic improvements and much needed backing. At that time, using SVP was second nature to me (I REALLY liked it, and still do), and I might have jumped platforms to keep it. That option, unfortunately, never existed. BTW, in terms of historical context, it's important to remind all the PC Logic users that many Mac users thought it was the end of the world when Emagic announced that it would be supporting Windows, and that it planned to achieve feature parity. We felt that this was going to really hold Mac development back, and that it was the end of the world. In fact, many people thought that Emagic was going to migrate totally to the Windows platform, and that their Mac software would be abandoned. It's amazing how fortunes can change in the span of a few years. Lee Blaske
