So will the new version be called "iLogical"?
mercury
Dear All,
As a PC user of LAW for a good number of years I am, like all the other PC
posters today, VERY dissappointed and angry about this announcement....
I can see where someone at Apple might think this makes business sense
(read 'money' sense) for them..... They have bought the leading sequencer
package available for their OS.... But I really don't see this as a
guarentee for those Mac-based Logic users.... I'd be worried either
way..... I can't see how Logic is ever going to be a huge priority within
Apple..... and if, as a subsid company it doesn't make the required profit
margins, then you can guess exactly what will happen to Logic R&D.....
There are just so many examples out there in business where this sort of
thing happens.... Logic users will no longer be dependent upon the
managerial whims of Emagic - they will be dependent upon the money managers
at the top of the Apple tree.... and these people will not have Logic as
their only (or even major) priority.....
I certainly hope Apple change their minds and continue to offer PC
support.... and if they don't, I think they might find they get a lot of
negative publicity because of the decision (and even some of the legal
grief already hinted at by other members of the list)..... My Logic
5/EXS24/ES2 system would run quite happily for another year or two (and
maybe longer - maybe this is just the jolt some of us need to stop our
constant upgrading).... but I have too much time/expertise invested in PC
technology to want to move platforms.... It would not be cost effective
for me in terms of either money or time....... So if/when I do 'upgrade'
the odds are it will be to something like Cubase SX.....
Steinberg and Cakewalk must be rubbing their hands with glee..... If they
handle this right they could make a huge bundle, acquire a vastly increased
user-base and hence make their own market position a hell of a lot
stronger....
This is certainly a sad day for PC users of Logic.... but I think it is
pretty worrying whatever platform you are using....

I am one of those unlucky sobs that had Musicquest/opcode 8port/se, just to
have to replace it. I got Unitor8/AMT8 combos for both mac and Windows. Now
I guess that when I completely dump MAC I'll have to switch interfaces
again somewhere up ahead. Ah, heck. I'll dump them immediatly. Hmm, Do I
dare to go for Roland/Edirols new 880? Roland is kind of tied to Emagic...
But I guess Roland is out shortly too. So I sent my old key and disc in the
upgrade to Roland Scandinavia for upgrade almost a month ago with online
registration, and have not yet recieved an unlock key for the upgrades. And
no response to my reminder last week. Am I screwed on my key so that I wont
get to do a Cubase Cross-grade too?
I'm seriously pissed... Especially since I have talked myself warm over
Logic on the PC since v.2.5, and got a lot of people to choose that. Now I
have to look them in the I and say: -"Forgive me, I was horribly
wrong."...
Best Regards (To the group, Emagic/apple can feel excluded for now)

well Bo,
empathy for what looks like a dead end.
But Steinberg is happy to receive you. It won't cost much and you
will be happy.
Then again - there is never a guarantee that they won't screw you
over either.... (yes I once paid big dollars for Avalon from them
running on Atari...... ) Anyone else I know running Steinberg has a
crack - so maybe it won't cost you anything.
