I was a little confused at first by this news but the more I think
about it, the more it seems
that it won't be much of an earthquake after all.
We all know that Macs, Pro Tools and Logic are standards in recording
studios nowadays,
also LAWP has always been a step behind LAMP and Cubase for multiple
reasons (lowsy
ASIO and VST support) so ... of course LAWP users are right to be
pissed off mainly for the
lack of future support and devellopment but c'mon I'm sure many of
you guys have been
lurking on Cubase SX anyway and EMagic knows LAWP isn't up to expectations
...
I also think that if you're a Pro and need a reliable, stable and
specialised tool you will make
an efford to spend the money because time is money and you'll save so
much of your
time and health on the long term (I can't stand the idea of waisting
time, sitting and waiting for a computer to reboot) that you won't
regret it.
I come from a generation where you would pay thousands of dollars for
a synth or a drum machine
because it was the right thing to do if you wanted the best (some
could afford a Synclavier others an Akai S900) and your talent
deserved the best, today it seems that all this 2 cent technology
isn't proportionally bringing better music.
However If I was a LAWP user I'd stick to Logic, switch to Mac and
use it as my production tool.
Then if I liked XP better for the other things (which I do actually
although my DAW is a Mac)
I'd keep my PC for those other things. No big deal. Of course if you
don't make music for a living
(or simply don't want to shove on a Mac) I'm sure Steinberg will
come out with an interesting crossgrade policy and you won't regret
it because Cubase SX is FAR better than LAWP !
