Subject: [LUG][LAM] My Pure Speculation about LAW's future
Message #110104
Hi all, I'm a mac user who loves Logic and therefore, from a purely selfish point of view I have to say I'm optimistic about what this could mean for the quality of MY recording system. That said, I'm incredibly shocked by the news of the discontinuation of the Emagic windows line. I agree whole heartedly with the LAW users who feel this would be a "shafting" but I think perhaps there is more news to come. I feel sure that having just paid for an upgrade to version 5, LAW users would have a strong case for litigation if their product is completely dropped. But what if it just mutated into a new piece of software that is not supported by Apple, but by a new (or already established) company who develop and support this new software as a separate product for Windows? The two different products will end up with different features and I'm sure that this will be a bad thing for people who share their work with others on a different platform to themselves (myself included) but it won't be as bad as the total cessation of Logic on the PC. What makes me think this could all happen? One word..."MAGIX" Gareth

Hi, the decision to cease sales of Emagic's products for Windows doesn't really coincide with Apple's politics (apart from being short-sightened): "Apple Works" was just released for the windows platform. Besides, with Emagic's products Apple Computer would have a foot inside the PC software market, and that is not so bad either. If only R&D for Windows software wasn't too expensive. In that case, Emagic would cease development of PC releases because Apple fireds their R&D staff. Which in turn would release these people to work for Steinberg or anybody else for the PC platform. So in either perspective, to stop developing for the PC platform doesn't make sense. I wonder if this group is a guinea-pig to find out precisely that... Cheer up, PC users, I don't think it's over yet. Jurgen Frenz Lecturer Film Sound & Video Ngee Ann Polytechnic Singapore

there were NO previous indicators that logic would be discontinued on pc. there were NO warnings to those of us who (foolishly) bought logic 5, logic control and the xt. the business "talks" that have ended in the dissolution of emagic as a seperate company must have been ongoing for several months. and now, in one extremely curt and tactless sentence, us PC users have been brushed aside. time to switch to a company that cares about us pc users... cubase sx, here i come. ds.

In the case of Appleworks, most people use Office, so Apple wasn't going to be drawing people to the Mac for Appleworks anyways. On the other hand, FCP, etc. are intended to draw people to the platform. Then again, there has been talk of whether FCP would ever be released on PC and if this were ever done, it wouldn't be out of the question for Apple to release whatever Logic turns into back on the PC in a couple years if it really takes off. this is the letter I sended to emagic with my bad english Dear Emagic, let me say that I feel betrayed by your decision, and I'm not alone!!. It's simply not fair. We developped a relationship based on truth, during almost 10 years. How can you abandon 35% of your customers !! It's madness !! I pay the upgrade for v 5 last month ,why did you not say there won't be a v6 on windows... Don't forget that when a customer buys a software, he buys the potential of development as well. Every soft company dedicaced for the mac system, a their beginning, did the choice (because they didn't have it...) to develop their soft on PC. And you do exactly the contrary. Don't isolate your company... sorry for my bad english > Hervé Champeaux Paris customer since notator.
