I noticed last week that the emagic employees page of their website was no longer there - I was just checking to see if Markus was still at emagic or not, considering he usually tells us when he's going on holiday... > Cheers No convinced about that yet. Presumably its too far down the line for the 70000 LAW users to lobby Apple to widen its Windows Business Unit. In this respect, I feel Microsoft is the better company here. And I hardly _ever_ say that. -- The best of times to you all... Pants

Unbelievable. I have written Emagic a letter, and I suggest that everyone do the same. Here's mine... Dear Emagic, How can you sell the company, and abandon *at least* 35% of your customer base (including some Mac users who don't care for this treatment of anyone)? Worse, how could you sell us Logic 5 and LC, *knowing* that such an acquisition was going to take place? This certainly was no impulse move -- it would take a minimum of 6-18 months to even start the process of such a merger. What does an honorable company such as Emagic intend to do, to make up for the tremendous loss that Windows users will suffer, as a result of relying on your company and your products? I have been an ardent supporter of Emagic since I started using Logic 3 years ago. Now I feel that I've played the fool for you. How can you do this to us? Selling the company, that I understand. But the terms of sale are simply unethical. Surely you must realize that. F. Stuart (Skip) Leeds, MD Silkspeed Studios/Red Idle Music Cincinnati, OH

>From the scuttlebutt, it seems that employees at Emagic may not have known all that much about the purchase in advance. I work at a large company, and this would not surprise me at all. If I were working at Emagic, it seems that I might feel just awful about the results. Stranded users, an instant decline in the user base for the software, a sense of futility about the effort that went into creating such a wonderful dual platform product. I wonder how the employees at Emagic feel about all of this? I doubt that Emagic would have sold out if they had any choice. There are other ways to get tighter OS integration than an outright sale. I'd much rather work for a small company than a giant. I've experienced both. My guess is that Emagic was in deep trouble and Apple got a steal of a price as a result. It will sure be interesting to see how this all plays out. The only positive thing I can think of about all this is that there will one fewer product on the Windows platform to splinter the market, which will mean that there will be more development cash at Cubase and Cakewalk, which might result in better products. Twisted. I suppose the future might be bright on the Mac side as well, but we'll have to wait and see. As weird as the mood might be at Emagic right now, I'm sure glad I don't work for MOTU or Avid. I'm sure glad there are other alternatives out there. It's time to go find one and watch the fireworks from a safe distance. Andy Voelkel 310 399 2289 andy@...

It's killing me. You'd think they would want to keep as many users as possible instead pulling a Microsoft tactic.

That was one of the big reasons I had started using logic becuase it was the first for cross pc and mac support. I'm reall dreading learning new sofwtware but I will never buy a Mac now that they are trying to force people to it plus I just built a new PC last Jan. Looks like I'll just use a hack version of Nuendo until I can save up for the real thing. > > I'm a Mac user myself and I agree with you :-( this is not good :-( > (our bass player uses Logic Windows and it's been really easy to do > collobrations with him but now that will be over :-( > My sympathy is with you all Logic PC users :-( > > Cheers > -- > Check out the web page for my band: > Now solo works also: > New home address : http://koti.welho.com/jpennane
