This doesn't seem much positive for me.
Hopefully this is not true.

Wait a sec .... wasn't Apple rumoured to be buying Digital performer
too?
I thought thi must have been an elaborate hoax, but it's at
www.emagic.de too -very elaborate if it is.
Strange. Why loose 45% of your market share overnight?
'Emagic's most popular product, Logic, is actively used by over
200,000 musicians around the world. Emagic will operate as a wholly
owned division of Apple.'
That's 130,000 from this moment onwards.
bad,bad news.

It matches with their "switch" campaign but it's probably doubtful
that this is the right step to really make people switch to the Mac.
But what I really meant with the positive statement is this: Apple likes to
take control of almost everything what emagic does now, and they have
absolutely no experience in the Pro Audio sector. although they have proven
with FinalCutPro that they can deliver good work I'm still a bit concerned
that they hose Logic.
(uhoh, got real OffTopic now)
Maybe some emagic employee care to comment?
bye.

If this really means Logic Audio for Windows is going to be
discontinued....
I still have to update to Logic 5 but if this info is true, I won't.
If Emagic thinks I'm going to buy an Expensive Low performance
machine (Mac G4 )THEY ARE WRONG!
What will happen is that a lot of Logic PC users will switch to:
CUBASE SX
Steinberg made a big step forward with the introduction of SX.
- Offline rendering of plugins (VST)
- Multiple outputs on VSTi.
- A rocksolid audio engine. (no asio overload message here!)
Emagic it's up to you.

I am stunned! This is outrageous! I was just thinking it was time to
upgrade my work and home copies of LAPW to version 5 - not any more.
I'll stick with v4.5 as there's no point pouring my money into Apple
when they're going to shaft us. They are making a bit of a habit of
doing this sort of thing (e.g. Astarte, Spruce Technologies, both
were PC DVD products) - Grrrrrrrr! I know people who have migrated
from Mac to PC Logic because they say that they found the PC version
more stable. Steinberg & Twelve Tone Systems must be throwing a
champagne party...unfortunately for us, Logic is a better product,
but if we are not going to have an option, I guess we have to look at
the other options.

I agree completely.
I have a feeling this will blow up in Apple's face. I mean, Apple's
survival depends on multimedia users, so it's in their interests to ensure
that the best multimedia applications run on Mac. However, they've just
made a bad name for themselves with exactly the kind of customer they would
like to acquire.
Surely this is terrible PR for Apple, or am I nuts?

Neither me :-(

I will consider this option seriously. If Steinberg people are inteligent,
they should offer
us crossgrades paths: Logic to Cubase, EXS24 to Halion.
But, wait ... no serious alternatives to SoundDiver on PC :-((

First thing I should say - I feel very sorry for Windows users. However, as
a long term apple and emagic customer I too am very concerned.
Do all emagic employees walk off into the sunset with fat pay-cheques
leaving nothing to apple but the software as it stands currently?
Apple now has the opportunity to use the software to drive hardware sales.
Do we suddenly find that the "minimum" system is a dual 1ghz G4
with OSX?
Not that I'd mind one of these systems - I simply can't afford one right
now.
Not happy.

Personally I don't think it matters. My guess is that they just did
not want to develop for Intel at all and are willing to lose those
customers, who, in any case will be reluctant to migrate to PPC
machines.
Someone sarcastically suggested that apple send them machines for
free along with the crossgrade.... actually I think this is not a bad
idea.
....emagic is not available by phone...

And they call it technolgy with sole!
Im hurt like some many others having recently invested almost $8000 AU to
upgrade to a mobile solution based on a windows notebook and audio
interface to use with Logic 5.
What a waste !
What kind of sole would do this other than an Asshole :(

I am absolutely pissed off by the decision of Apple not to support
the Windows platform !
I made major investment last year in buying the full range of Emagic
Software and HW and a brand new "Pro" Windows PC to support it.
I am left with the options:
-Either to "freeze" my HW/SW for a few years and then switch to
the
(expensive)Apple platform (if it still exist by then).
- Or to switch ASAP to Cubase (before I have invested too much know
how into Logic...) If Steinberg comes with a good deal, I will
probably go for the second route...
We can still hope Apple changes their mind (quickly...)

And the new Cubase System Link CPU sharing technology looks pretty
exciting too, just link up multiple computers for extra DSP power.

This is certainly a concern - you can bet that the Emagic windows
guys are walking straight over to Steinberg.

I don't see any big deal for now. What is most probably is that the
first "Applemagic" version of Logic will be for OSX. It won't
happen
tomorrow in any case.
But you will probably want a dual machine for OSX anyhow.......

Any company who would just abandon 1/2 their user base is insane.

You nuts. All Mac users are jumping up and down with glee right now.
Apple's PR has always been based at making their 5% of the market happy,
and they've made them VERY happy with this.
stephenbennettchaos wrote:

35%. And the reality is you will probably see at least 5-10% of those
switch to Mac, so they cut development costs 50%, only lose...say 25% of
their market, infuse it with a ton of capital and support as well as
access to all the top technoilogies on the Mac......a loss in the short
term for sure, but the future remains to be seen.
For all the PC users complaining about this....I feel your pain. Apple
could settle a lawsuit for pennies, but it would be nice if they
offered, say the latest version of Logic and $700 off a Mac or something
like that.
The flip side is, again to all you PC users, if Logic becomes absolute
par with ProTools or even better, how many of you would honestly refuse
to buy it because your nose is out of joint? It would still be gobs
cheaper than a ProTools system.
Take care

Wait until the new machines in 3 weeks. Also you can bet it will be
severely optimised for the Mac now. Photoshop runs circles around a PC
on a Mac. Yes it is optimsed heavily for Mac, but that is the point.
These "low performance macs" are likely to get 50% more
performance than
any current PC when Apple is through with it, and ultimately that is
what will bring a lot of PC guys over....the ones who always say it is
the performance they are after.
Not that I don't think this is all intense news for Mac and PC users,
but things happen. Mac users have had to purchase PC's for years in
order to run apps not available for the Mac. Get used to it. Yes it
sucks, but it has often been greener on your side. We all have similar
experiences with different apps.
Take care

Seriously, most of us Mac users sympathise with you PC folk. We have all
been there.....again and again. This is the sort of thing we have
complained about for years, and that is why we sympathise. I have yet to
see one PC user who says "This sucks.....now I know how the Mac users
feel."
Take care

In practise it means that Windows support has stopped today.

Hey,
A month ago I posted a message about my LAW slowing down momentarily at
random during playback a simple 7 track MIDI song. I got a response
suggesting I should disable all antivirus, firewall and alike utilities that
work in the background and could steal processor cycles. As much as
disappointing this sounded to me coming from a very active logic-users
group, I did that and since it did help I posted another messages where at
the end I expressed my frustration stemming from a fact that long time ago I
had a simple slow Mac LC III and a simple $50 General Music Sequencer and I
never had a problem like that. It was a mistake...
In a perfect world it would be understood that I meant a simple slow
computer and not a simple yet so powerful Mac. The only response to that
post was a 1 line ending with a wink ;-) and alluding to platform wars.
How disappointing...
Best Regards,

Actually - if you've been using and following apple like I have for
over ten years, you'd realise that any clued up mac users will be
worrying whether or not mac will screw the program over, I hasten to
remind you that there are lots of things in logic that break apple
api programming protocols, screensets and window specific menus for
starters, apple will have to knock this on the head or they set a
precedent and make a mockery of their own programming guidelines.
