All I have to say about this dongle issue is "Thank god I ain't upgrading". Emagic - we all warned you about this months ago on this forum, and you assured us time and time again, that the process would be seamless and to the benefit of the users and the organisation. For quite an ever increasing bunch of people, this is yet to be proven. People don't seem to be getting what they paid for. There is no benefit to anyone other than emagic for the copy protection schemes, which are designed to enforce commerce between consumers and the organisation. In essence, people are buying cripped software that when failure occurs, offers these people nothing other than consumed diskspace on their PC's. And then for these consumers to have their problems resolved, you fail to implement or to accomodate the appropriate resources to handle these issues in a timely manner. Time is of the essence to a dongle that has an expiry date, and a professional organisation should have the capabilities and processes in place to ensure that effective delivery of their codes is achieved. Furthermore, time is the primary reason why you have these reactive situations and lack of coordination by your supply chain is seemingly exacerbating the situation and your reputation! Why should consumers have to chase you up, when you have given them the faith to assume that you will deliver on your promises? And when you don't and they need to spend endless dollars in ensuring your trust, then what do you think it will do to their perception of you as an organisation in the future? This is not only costing people time and money, but more than the premise of a seamless $150 upgrade. I am surprised people have not laid law suits on you or sent you invoices as retribution for the expense incurred by loss of revenue, resources and chasing up your organisation to essentially fix issues that were created by yourselves as a result of "lack of proper planning and process.." All this hoohar about emagic delaying the release of the software to get it right - we all waited 6 months, and for what? It doesn't seem to be THAT stable from people are saying and I'm still waiting on mutli IO's before I upgrade.... Judging by the way version numbering schemes typically work, v5.1 was a major subrelease (although we all know that will actually be 5.2). Then there were 3 versions of the software running in parallel - 5.0, 5.01 and 5.1. surely the ability for an organisation to bugtrack and validate if the problem is on one platform or all, would have been confusing to say the least. I hate to say it, but there were some really bad decisions made with this release and I hope for the sake of Emagic, they are fixed pronto! ------------------------------------------------------------ This e-mail may be confidential. I think the benefit we get is that Emagic can afford to stay in business and continue updating the software. I think they are just going through some growing pains right now.I wasn't using Logic when the last dongle was released, but it was probably a simillar situation I imagine. Things should settle down soon. Colin Miller

Well spoken. I'm glad I did not upgrade so far... if the situation won't change, I neverwill. The whole thing goes into the wrong direction.... I fully agree with the need to protect the software, but not on the customers back, please ... this shouldbe done by emagic in a manner that nobody ever could have a problem with, as long as he payed the license. People codes not arriving and being locked out of the program, exs keys dying with no clear emergency procedure in place. its quite messy. after all, just because 5 is out, its not stoping from making great music with 4.81.
