Subject: [LUG] [LAM] Bug? dual MAudio cards in LAP 5.
Message #108003
Hi all, I've had a problem with MAudio cards on my G4 1MHz which Rob at Emagic in UK (Sound Technology) asked me to send details of. I reproduce the email below in case any one else on the list is suffering, or better knows a permanent cure! EMAIL TO "EMAGIC" IN UK +++++++++++++++++++++ I rang you last week re problems with two M-Audio cards on my G4 Mac. You asked me to email as it may be a bug. If you recall I could (sometimes) get a song ("old" V.4 song converted) to launch on a double click and have both cards accessible. But often I had to 'Open' the song from within a launched Logic, or worse see below. You asked me to send system details etc. so I attach an ASP report on my setup, and my Logic 5 prefs. I have since found out that the problem still exists. It appears independent of which extensions I have loaded: I have had ALL on, and a very cut down set. I've also tried your Ed's suggested min. set (with necc. system differences). The problem is not affected, although I discovered that Logic Help would not launch within Logic unless I had "HTMLRenderingLib" loaded. I assume this is normal? So here's the problem in detail, and my working solutions: On launching a song, whether double clicked, drag-and-dropped onto the Logic Icon, or "Open"ed from within Logic, either one of the two M-Audio Cards will often work, the other not. Occasionally neither will work tho this is rarer. Sometimes BOTH will work! Once both ARE working loading other songs etc. in that session work OK (and sometimes even after quitting Logic and reloading). Shutting down the computer overnight (or for a shorter time) will sometimes cause the problem to reappear the following morning. It's not a battery problem - all Mac settings are retained. Any restart CAN bring the problem back. Working solutions - tho these seem to be very hit and miss: Zapping the PRAM from Techtool seems to often work. (It loses the TimeZone setting in "Date & Time", so this has to be reset to "London"). Zapping by restarting and holding down the keys (P R alt and Apple) will also work but not as often, and doesn't lose the TimeZone setting. Sometimes rebuilding the desktop is also helpful - but I'm less sure of this being a part of the solution. Having Zapped etc. launching a song (by whatever method) which I KNOW was working with both cards usually succeeds, though not every time! Bit bizarre eh? My basic system is (full Apple System Profiler attached) : Logic 5.1.3, Mac G4 1 GHz, Mac OS 9.2, 1.5 Gb RAM, GXP 60Gb 2nd audio drive with Sonnet ATA 100 card, AudioWerk8, M-Audio D1010 rack mount, M-Audio D410 card, (using M-Audio's beta AsioMulti driver and control panel), Unitor 8 Mk2, Sony E430 19" monitor. Sometimes I use an Adaptec SCSI 9606 card for Zip Drive - but this is normally switched off, and the drivers now loaded. Any suggestions?? It's a bit of a PITA!
