Anybody have opinions on these two? Battery seems very popular, and
I don't hear much about DR-008 these days. When I was a member of
this group a year or so ago, people really seemed excited about DR-
005 and the upcoming DR-008.
I want something stable, efficient, great-sounding, easy to use, and
powerful (kindof in that order of preference...). Oh yeah, and I
want to be able to import all the major drumkit and sample formats.
I am going to download the demos of both, but if anybody has opinions
(not on this group, certainly!), please advise me...
Thanks, smeet
I demo'd both last year and decided to buy DR008. I remember having
a couple of stability problems with Battery, but I can't remember
what exactly (it was maybe a year ago?). As well, I seem to recall
NI having to re-upload their Battery demo because of a bug. Again,
this was a long time ago and I could be confusing products. The fact
of the matter is that I've never had a problem with the stability of
the DR-008. I think it also has a lot more functionality and power
than Battery. However, Battery does do a couple of things better.
I've heard people say that it does velociy layering better
(crossfades between layers, I don't think dr008 does this). DR-008
doesn't import Akai at the moment, but I believe the next release
will (due soon). It imports LM-4 kits. DR008 doesn't take up much
cpu power, that's for sure. And it's definitely easy to use
eventhough it's gui isn't as nice looking as Battery. DR008 is $50US
cheaper too.

Darn, it seems DR-008 is PC only, is that right? I'm on a mac, too bad,
from the descriptions, it sounds like what I would want. Oh well, I
guess I'll look at Battery and Attack, or maybe just stick with
the EXS-24...

I've been using Battery for almost a year now (on a PC), and I love it.
Never had any stability issues with it, and it's a no brainer to use.
