dear list thanks for all yhour replies. i knew it was something stupid. also eventually found it in the manual(page 2-11). did a rock solid recording with a powerbook 667 and a motu 896. one and a half hours straight. A gospel choir in the east village(NYC). no hiccups at all. thanks again gary pozner NYC
