Hi,
I did a mixdown text to compare two different ways to handle mixdown in
Logic. First I bounced the mix to a stereo file on the harddisk (version 1).
The other method I used, on the same Logic song, was to record the AW8
digital output into my DAT recorders digital input. From the DAT I
rerecorded digitally into SoundForge and got a stereo file on the harddisk
(version 2). The two soundfiles were mastered in SoundForge in exactly the
same way (RCL compressor "soft opto", REQ six band EQ, L1
maximazer). After burning to CD and listening on a good sound system ther
was no doubt the "DAT" version sounded better than the bounced
one. This test was done with two different songs, one electronic and one
with much acoustic recordings.
From this on I will never bounce mixes again. But it's a good thing to
bounce seperate tracks for adding FX that are too heavy for the CPU to
calculate in realtime.
Cheers
