I am changing my old G3 Blue for a G 4 733 . I was Logic 4.8.1 using the
MTP AV with a G Port . Is anyone using the MTP AV with the USB connection ,
i remember trying that and not getting good results . Any tips ? Thanks in
advance.

1 - It needs OMS, so your timing goes all to hell (both midi
latency and jitter).
2 - The MTP AV USB has an appalling tendency to go offline after
an idle period (not even sleep, just idle), requiring the USB to be
unplugged & replugged to bring it back.
If you can stick with your serial MTP, do.

I couldn't really run logic more than 15 minutes without crashing using MTP
AV
under USB. Once I switched to stealth port, Logic never crashed. The MTP
still crashes every day or two, but it does that even if it's not connected
to anything. It also still spurts out note on messages every now and then
too. Every day I tell it how I am counting downt he days until I replace it
*giggle*. I never tried the technique someone mentioned about changing the
load order of OMS, so maybe that would have fixed the problem.
