Subject: [GEN] Automating Faders
Message #104766
I am using Logic Gold (4.8.1) as an 8 channel Hard Disk recorder for recording live bands. After the recording session I have been mixing with an external desk for channel faders, EQ and effects processors with good results but repeatability of fader movements is a problem. After reading the threads a while ago on using Logic as a mixer I realised the benefits of fader automation. However, moving faders with a mouse is a pain because I always overshoot and end up having to edit the changes in the event list to get smooth fades. Is there an easier way of fading up or down like an Audio Hyperdraw? I know Logic Control would solve the problem but I can't afford such luxury just yet ! Phil

Could anyone tell me how to copy automation data in Logic 5.10? If i draw out a curve in the arrange page etc....lets say under a loop, and then i repeat the loop later in the track, how can i copy the automation data to easily repeat it underneat the loop each time i use that loop!? Thanks! Rob

If you want something cheap -- I think there are some control surfaces out there (doesn't MIDIman make one?) that are much less expensive than LC. Skip

Will we have to send back CD's as before, or do we simply get codes to enter into the XSkey? Mine are order - just curious. Regards - Colin

Since then I have been trying to obtain the codes with no luck yet. I was notified by EmagicUSA yesterday that I should have the codes later this week. I will let you all know how this turns out. It is important to ask the vendor if the XSKey codes are in the box before your buy!

Skip, Your reply made me go back and experiment again because actually I did want to use Hyperdraw on audio regions. Its just that the manual implied that Hyperdraw is only for midi sequences and when I selected Hyperdraw in the Arrange Page for an Audio region nothing happened. However, I now realise that the only reason that I couldn't see the Hyperdraw editor was because I hadn't enlarged the Arrange Page enough to see the Hyperdraw editor below the audio display. So I thank you for your reply. You have answered my question and I can do what I want, but your comments on using a midi generator as a fader control surface is also worth thinking about. (At least until I can afford Logic Control ! Thanks again, Phil

Since then I have been trying to obtain the codes with Yes, there are still packages in the market without codes. We already have a quick solution for this and this solution will be up later this week or next week. Contact Emagic USA if you bought such a package in the USA. I am away from Logic by a few miles currently but amongst the 15 or so entries that result from the find is one that has the word "Folder" in it. That is it. Bob

The really cool implementation (IMO) would be to manipulate data in the automation folder window, and then when you close that window, the data is automatically transformed to track data in the arrange window Thanks again Malcolm ----------------- Malcolm Payne Music NYC http://www.malcolmpayne.com
