Mac OS XSKey Driver for Logic 4 series
April 30th 2002
The Mac OS XSKey Driver enables you to run your existing Logic 4 Mac OS
version and plug-ins using your new authorized XSKey. A free download of
this driver is now available. We regret that it is not possible to offer a
similar solution for Windows customers due to technical reasons.

Hi Markus,
I would say thank you from the bottom of my heart but being as there
is not actually a link on the site to start the download, only the title of
the section, I shall have to call you a tease!

This driver is (almost) especially for you :-)

This seems stupid to me. Didn't we all send our v.4 disks back to
emagic. Why would we still have the software. Oh yeah, woo hoo. I can
use version 4 until I have to reformat my Hard Drive. Do we get new
disks too?

The contents of the Logic4 CD aren't copy protected. It's merely the
dongle that allows Logic to boot or not. Sending back the CD was only
for proving that you owned Logic4 (as opposed to Logic3).
So not having that Logic4 CD doesn't mean you can never re-install
Logic4. Just make a backup copy right now, in case your hard drive
cacks out.
This is very different from the plugin CDs (EXS24, EVP88, ES1, ESB....).
However, your XSKey contains the authorizations (or you will soon get
these) if you own any of these.

Great news, great solution, very fair and equitable and
reassuring. As one of the noisier protestors regarding this issue
it is gratifying to see the response, and it speaks well for
Emagic, and certainly pushes my opinion far more toward the
positive than it where it was a few weeks ago.

Hi Markus
I've found the link now but I had to use Explorer to see it,
Navigator showed all the other links on the page but just a title for the
Xskey driver.
Cheers Markus,

Great news Markus, thanks. Is this driver for V4 only, or does it handle V4
and V5 interchangeably?

You can use them without any problems (but you probably can't use both
applications at the same time :-)

You mean you don't have a backup of your installed software? Tsk,
tsk... Then maybe now is the time to make such a backup. Having to
reformat a HD (when on earth does that ever happen btw?) should never
cause loss of crucial data -- such as your one and only copy of Logic
4.x.
Besides: after weeks of complaints by various people that they can't
use their v4 anymore, Emagic now comes with a super-deluxe & free
solution. And one of the first reactions is "this seems stupid to
me". Oh well...

As of this morning, there's a heading there, but no download link. Has it

If you look at the site with Netscape Navigator, the heading shows up but
not the link, if you look with Explorer, it should be fine - weird but at
least you get your driver!!

That's basically a good thing but this driver doesn't work on my
9600/300 with OS 9.1. When connecting an old dongle I can work with
the old versions (4.73, 4.81) but not with this driver and an
otherwise fine working LAMP 5.0/XSKey combination. Because I'm in the
process to upgrade my three Logic Platinum installs I don't want to
send in the old version 4 dongle until I can get this driver to work.
Any ideas? Could it be that this driver is not compatible with USB PCI
cards?

Sorry, it is the same communication code as in Logic. We tested it on many
machines without any problem. I really don't know.

It works with my OrangeLink+ (USB/Firewire-Combo); I´m on a beige G3
and
MacOS 9.2.2 though.

Brilliant!! This addresses so many of the issues folks have
raised with the upgrade. Thanks to Emagic for being
responsive.

Well, my thought is, why did you make a backup of 4.8 when you sent your
dongle back? Did
you have some kind of dongle workaround? I sure don't. It didn't seem to me
like I would ever
be ABLE to use it again. The registration information for the Version 5
upgrade didn't say "Be
Sure To Back Up Logic 4.8".
Plus, I know people are still using 4.8, but why would eMagic spend their
time supporting old
versions of their software whn there are plenty of things to be done on the
new version.
If you want to use 4.8, don't buy the upgrade. But I personally wanted
development time to go
toward the future and not the past.
Have fun with 4.8

It's called Good Faith. The way it works is, you pay Emagic hundreds and
hundreds of dollars for the use of their software, and, in consideration for
your investment in their product, they offer support for that product over
some reasonable amount of time following the date of purchase.
What do you folks think, is two years a reasonable amount of time?
When did 4.8 come out? The fact that it is no longer the most recent version
does not make it "old." I don't expect Emagic to ever release 4.9,
but I do
have every right to expect them to do whatever they have to to maintain the
value of their second-most-recent version.

The flaw to your very reasonable argument is that 4.8.1 is a supported
version of 4.0.0 which has been out about 2 yrs ... I believe updates
have been free from 4.0 up to 4.8.1. Thus by your own argument you are
no longer worthy of support.

By my own argument I am worthy of support for the next 17 months, as I
purchased 4.8.1 outright, not as an upgrade, for approx. $700.00 in October
of last year.

Agreed, and since no one version is perfect, in fact since the last
few were so quirky and different, it makes total sense for them to
stay alive, for archiving reasons if for no other. Many of us have
4.0 files that will be scrambled if we try to open them in 5.1
