A user on the Logic TDM group reports that his fresh v5 CD (no
Logic
Control) installed version 5.0.1 with ES2, EVOC and DOT. Is it
officially
out? My CD (4>5 kit) installs 5.0.0 , and the web-updater
seemingly doesn't do much
more than reinstalling VSM. Does anyone know if you are
supposed to look for
v5 updates on the Emagic-site as before or if you have to
reinstall every
morning to check for the newer version?

None of the above! You're stuck with 5.0.0 for now. There are no
dowloadable 5.x.x updates at the moment either directly or via the
intstaller. The fact that these are not available perhaps suggests
that a more general downloadable 5.x update is pretty close to
release??
Having said than it does seem a little strange that Emagic have
chosen to produce a 5.0.1 CD rather than to continue with the 5.0.0
CD which has the facility to automatically update the program during
the install routine. What's the point of having an auto-update
feature if you're not going to use it?
Sorry to sound a but grumpy but I really want to play with the ES2!!!
(which some people can do now). On that note, does anyone know when
the ES2 will be in the shops?

I wondered that myself when I installed 4.x after I first got it. I
got a LAWP 4.6.2 CD from the box, and after installing it the auto-
updater downloaded 4.7.2. I had to go and download/install 4.8.1
manually even though 4.8.1 had been out for quite some time this
January of 2002. So even in 4.x Emagic doesn't seem to want to really
use their auto-updater for some reason. "Just one of those Emagic
mysteries..." :-)
