Subject: LAMP OS X delivery date

Hi there, > From: "jholl15" <jon@...> > > i searched the archive and it came up with nothing, so does > anyone have any inside information on when it will be available > for MAC OS X. Cubase is apparantly already on the way. No one (with a handful of exceptions on this list) can give you insider information - because an insider is an employee by definition...and they have stated repeatedly, not only for this topic but for most future releases that they can't share this information with you - even if they wanted to. Believe me if Cubase for X had been released - we'd know about it 'cause Apple would be advertising the fact. All music software companies are talking about a release 'at some stage' - whenever that will be remains to be seen. It's not imperative to be first - just to be the best....it's not an Olympic event (i.e., a sprint to the end...) with regards, -- Lachlan Deck ldeck@...

I don't want to lose my time beta-testing a buggy Logic for OS-X next month. I'd rather work smoothly on a flawless Logic for OS-X next year. Why does software have bugs? Because users keep pressuring the companies with threats to switch to the competition which already has a buggy release out. David http://mp3.com/6ameternal

No, software has bugs because the programmers (unintentionally)create those bugs. To paraphrase Brian Eno paraphrasing someone else, "There are no side effects, only effects." If a program exhibits a bug, it's because the code is telling it to do something "buggy." I'm surprised that so many people on this forum see only two options: either release something now full of bugs or wait and release something "flawless." Following those two paths, Logic 5.0 must be flawless to have been delayed for so long. No bugs, right? Emagic has a tough time just answering the phone in the U.S.; I can't imagine individual "threats to switch to the competition" influence release policy one bit. I wish I *did* have that kind of influence. That said, I'm going to take advantage of the delay in releasing Gold 5.0 to check out Cubase SX when it's released. I'd like to believe Emagic would see that not as a threat but as an opportunity to keep a customer.

I expect a lot of people (like myself) aren't going to bother to upgrade until they get a few additional promised features, like full rewire 2 support, and I'm sure emagic is well aware of this. OS X support is another thing that will probably sell more copies of Logic 5. That should be enough incentive for them to work on it. I doubt it does any good for us to post here bitching at them. At least it doesn't seem to... :-) MT --

The overwhelming majority of LUGers are NOT Emagic employees, or even beta testers. We're just musicians and engineers trying to gain a better understanding of our primary tools and to connect with others with the same goal. I totally understand why some people are frustrated, and understand that venting can help, but the reason I chose not to become a therapist is that I didn't want to spend 8 hours a day listening to the whining of others. Unfortunately, as a LUGer, I'm now spending almost that much time reading the whining of others, and not getting paid one red cent to do it! I'm wholeheartedly wishing for everyone to get their fully-optimized, feature-rich, bug-free version of Logic right away, so we can end the avalanche of "EMAGIC RUINED MY LIFE AND STOLE MY CHILDREN!!!!!!" emails. To paraphrase Brian Eno paraphrasing someone else, "There >are no side effects, only effects." If a program exhibits a bug, it's >because the code is telling it to do something "buggy." > I can see that you never wrote a line a code. There is a bug when the programmer did not thought of a condition ; most of the time it is what the user did ! In a program 50 % is hard code, the other 50 % is to test what the user did ! A program will be bug free at 99,5% after a year of use ! If you do some modification you have to go for another year ! I don't know how many lines has Logic Audio, a programmer was supposed to write and test 10 lines a day ! There are very few bugs in Logic Audio, it is quite well tested :-) Emagic is doing a good job compared to companies like Microsoft, because they fix the bugs reported very quickly. I remember, 10 years ago, making a bug report about Landscape printing in Excel, 5 year after the bug was not fixed !!!! is it fixed now ? The only thing I will make a comment, is that there is no bug report fixes with Logic Audio ! there is one with Sound Diver ! Another point, I never had a feedback of a bug report ! As many user said "Emagic has to improve support and users communication" In 25 years of computers, the best support I have seen is the IBM's one., but you have to pay quite a lot to get it ! I don't know if some people of this list have been playing with Cubase, one of my friend is using it, and instead of saying "overload" Cubase was slowing down the tempo ! that's not professional ! What I have always admire in Logic Audio is the "multi-tasking" when it is playing and recording, try to do the same with ProTools LE and other Audio software's, when it is playing you cannot do anything !
