Hmm.. I've read through the little installation manual as well as the full
reference manual on how to set up the "Audio > Hardware &
Drivers" section
in Logic but I'm still not 100% sure if I'm doing this correctly. I'm not at
my Logic computer at the moment so I'm not sure if I'm remembering the names
correctly... I just remember that there are two separate tabs that you can
set up two separate sound cards on, I'm guessing that they're called 'Audio
Device 1' and 'Audio Device 2'. Whatever their exact name is hopefully the
following should make sense:
My goal: to use the Audiowerk2 as my main soundcard, but just use the
SoundBlaster Platinum for monitoring and MIDI I/O only. What is confusing is
the differences in the 'Audio Device 1' section and the 'Audio Device 2'
section in the 'Audio Hardware Properties' section.. Also the fact that in
both sections there are duplicate settings, e.g. in 'Audio Device 1' there
are -two- 'Software Monitoring', '20/24 bit recording', etc settings.. One
at the top right under PC A/V where I can choose from the EASI drivers...
and a second group of settings further down right under where I can put a
checkmark by 'Audiowerk'.
Trying to describe my dilemma gets to be terribly long and complicated...
-Basically- though, to achieve my goal listed above, up at the top of the
'Audio Device 1' tab in the Hardware & Drivers options... Should I leave
PC/AV checked or unchecked? I'm not sure if it is required once I also check
'Audiowerk' down in the lower half. I'm pretty sure I leave it as 'SB Wave
Out' or whatever for the 'Wave player' section... But I'm still confused as
to whether I should have the top or the lower 'Software Monitoring'
checked... and whether or not PC/AV has to be checked in order to use the
Audiowerk2 as well as the SB Wave Out for the Waveplayer.
Can anyone quickly go down the list of things to have checked (please make
sure to indicate the top or the bottom of a given option when necessary,
e.g. the top or the bottom 'software monitoring' etc, since there are two of
most of the options) so that I can, once again, just use the Audiowerk2 to
process all the sound for low latency when using virtual instruments etc,
while still using the SoundBlaster to monitor from and also using it's MIDI
I/O.
One of these days I'll be upgrading to a Hammerfall DSP + Digiface and I'll
just plug my Dynaudio BM6A's directly into the 96khz analog out on the
Digiface but for now I'm stuck with massively lower quality speakers so I
don't feel too bad tainting them with the crappy DA converters on the
SoundBlaster.
A final question: when I installed the latest Audiowerk2 drivers a little
icon shows up in my system tray for it.. The title of this icon is
"Audiowerk 2 MME driver setup" or something like that. Should I
take this as
a suggestion from Emagic to use the EASI MME drivers for the Audiowerk2?
From what I had read in various manuals it looked like I should probably be
using EASI DirectX for use with virtual instruments etc... But then again
this question might be moot if I am not even supposed to select an EASI
driver up at the top of that page of settings in the first place, if just
checking the Audiowerk section is sufficient.
Thanks!! I tried to simplify this as much as possible but it still turned
out rather long and complicated... Sorry about that!
Jeremy
