Hi All,
A few of you have mentioned that 5.0 seems to use up more CPU with
plugins than 4.8 did. Is that the concensus?
Has anyone run a song which almost maxed out on plugs in the old
version and tested it 5.0 to see if it would run?
Thanks for the input,
Thomas

Yes, v5 seems to be a bit more taxing on the CPU (that is, until the
G4 optimised version arrives :). A song that ran at 90-95% in 4.8.1
maxed out my CPU in v5.

Hi,
I'm trying to get Logic 5 and the O1V's MMC control (play, rec, etc),
working.
Any ideas, 'cause it ain't working here. I've tracked control value changes
via the environment monitor object (from the O1V's remote page 3), but the
MMC page (remote pp. 2) produces nothing.
I can't get logic to learn MMC either in the Key commands screen.
Responding to MMC would be a default logic behaviour though wouldn't it?
Cheers,
steven

This is broken, at least until we get the same or similar disk that
they are shipping with 5.1, which fixes the problem. They
obviously needed to address this or their own unit wouldn't work.
Now Logic's controller works, but nobody else's. You and I and
others who rely on one of the key features of the environment,
will just have to be "patient", or so I'm told. I'm going to
demand
an extension on my dongle return while they figure this out, and
anybody else with such a setup should do so as well, because
until they repair this amd ship it we must use 4.8.1.

When will this G4 optimised version be available?

Not more than v4 was. A later release will contain a bunch of
optimised plugins, which should give a massive increase in
performance (if you use those plugins).

HuH? v4 was altivec optimised and altivec is found only on G4
processors, so I guess v4 WAS G4 optimized. There's even a
switch to turn on/off the optimization.

v5 introduces optimized plugins.

Version 5 will ultimately have even more stuff optimized,
like plugins.

I said that v5 was not *more* optimsed than v4 was. Which is true,
as far as I know -- until we all get the DOT optimized plugins, that
is.

Hi all,
Why there is some smiley icons in the DITL of Logic ?? ;o)
Looks bizzar !

Does Your v 5.0 not have some DOT optinmised plugIns
I have LAWP 5.0.0 and I have Dot optimised plugs, but generally I'm
still getting Worse performance than i was with 4.8.1
MAAK
Hi,
I have a bunch of long takes that had to be recorded in a less than
favorable setting, and where the left and right channel are not well
balanced.
However, since the stereo base is rather wide on the recording,
just normalizing each channel wouldn't create anything near a
balanced stereo track.
What I would like to do is to take the integral of both channels,
and raise the gain on the weaker until the integral matches that
of the hotter channel. Preferrably this would be done with some
adaptive limiter in place to prevent potential clipping.
Is there any way to do this in a more or less automated way?

I don't think so. At least not as far as I noticed... LAMP 5.0...

Well, the DOT optimisation obviously only has effect on the CPU usage
of certain plugins, so "generally" there shouldn't be much
difference
between 4 and 5. And it's not amazing that 5 takes up more CPU
cycles: by now it's become clear that each new version of whichever
software package is bigger and slower than the previous one. As long
as CPUs get faster at a higher rate than software gets slower, we
should be fine...
Still I sometimes long for the Atari-days, where the fastest text
editor (name escapes me right now) was only 70 k (yes, that's no
typo) and outperformed *every* editor I've ever seen since, on all
counts. And that on a 8 MHz machine. Go figure...

5.0 seems to be faster for me.
I was using 4.7 before, and now using 5.0. The first tune I loaded
used to have a lot of 'audio overs' when playing the song while and
editing at the same time. It's now totally stable.
(using AMD Athlon 700)
