Subject: OT: HD - 60 or 80GB?
Message #98243
Hello there, with me and my last HD-question before I order. I asked myself if there are some issues about the size of a dedicated Audio-Harddrive. I can chose between a 60GB Maxtor, and a 80GB Maxtor. I actually want to to buy the bigger one, but maybe there are some issues concerning this I don´t know of. Any hints again? Would be fine.... :) putti [ADMIN] Please reply to logic-ot list or via personal email, not to the LUG.

With the larger file types and resolutions, we all need as much storage as possible, I would say go for the 80gb, or even a 120gb if they have it, the difference in price typically is not that much, and I haven't noticed any differences in performance from a 60gb to a 120gb, the only pain is if you are running Norton Utilities or some similar program, it will take forever to scan your discs, and with larger drives, if there ever is a disc failure, the loss is just that much more again, so again, back up, back up, back up. With drives so cheap, buy one to use, and buy another to have a carbon copy backup of your day to day drive. Secondly once again, I am aftaid of the Maxtor drives, the ones I have owned have shown definate signs of wear after a few months of dedicated day in/day out use., the IBM's have been rock solid for me, just my 2 cents.
