I am on day one of my Logic 5 journey, and the only real issue I
am having now is getting my old Logic 4.8.1 EXS24 library to
load up. Initially, it is taking much longer to load a stereo EXS24
instrument than previously in 4.8.1.
Initially, the demo EXS24 has an abbreviated version of the EXS
factory instruments to choose from, and these load up fine, but
when I drag my EXS Samples and Sampler Instruments folders
into the Logic 5.0 folder from Logic 4.8.1, EXS will not load any of
my patches (I have around 20gb of samples). The patch names
show up, but no loading of samples ever takes place. If I strip it
back to say just one or two EXS insturments in the folder all
together, they load up fine, although slow.
My first thoughts were that since this is a trial version of EXS24
that we have initially, is there some limitation on instrument
usage? I transfered out the factory library and tried using just one
of my own EXS sampler instruments from Distorted Reality, it
worked fine. Then I tried Distorted Reality folder along with the
Factory EXS folder, and it still worked fine, so I then retransferred
my full 20gb library in, and I get nothing, I choose an instrument,
waited upwards of 5 minutes to allow time for it to scan folders,
but the mouse pointer never indicates that any processing or
searching is happening(i.e. small clock icon with moving clock
hands) I know it states in the manual that full REX2 import etc. is
not implemented until the full install of EXS24 is
completed(serial # entered into XSKey).
Another item I noticed was an initial patch labeled "untitled" in
the EXS patch window, in the submenus that followed the
"untitled" patch was a mirrow image of my full 20gb of instrument
patch names, yet no samples load from this either.
I am confused, I am sure I must be overlooking something
obvious here, but I played with it for 2-3 hours with no luck.
Hopefully this isn't some goofy Dual Processor bug or
something.....
Has anyone else experienced slow EXS24 load times with Logic
5.0?
Other small notes of interest, there seem to be new presets for
many of the built in Logic Plug-Ins, even some of the older plugs.
The ES-1 enhancements are very nice touches, all of its presets
are better organized into subfolders by type, and the new ES-M
bass mono synth is very useable as well, many TB-303 like
presets.
REX2 import in the arrange window is working like a charm,
full preview of REX2 loops at song tempo works beautifully on
the MAC, unlike some previous reports I read.
OMF file import and export appear fully in place.
All this automation is a godsend. If you have been doing any
large format mixes, especially 64 + tracks (after having submixed
everything possible) with the old hyperdraw method, this is going
to cut your work time in half. Having a blast automating all my
VST plugs, feedbacks, filters, etc.

Hi,
I had no problems, but maybe someone of the EXS usergroup
can help:

My understanding is that each EXS program references its samples from
a specific directory path. For example, when you convert an Akai
program, the samples are copied to a specific folder (usually "Akai
Samples") within a folder - within a folder. EXS programs look for
that specific path. If it can't find the samples there, it starts
looking for them elsewhere on your hard drive - which is a very cool
feature...EXCEPT for the fact that it's excrutiatingly
SLOW...sometimes taking several minutes to locate the samples, and
not letting you do anything else in Logic while it searches.
We recently bought new computers, and copied our sampler instruments
and samples to the new PCs over the network. Sure enough, Logic took
forever every time we tried to load an EXS program. We ended up
renaming the folders on the new computers to match the names on the
old ones. If all your stuff is on the same computer, of course this
won't work. I've read that copying aliases into the new folders
solves this problem, though I haven't tried it.
Good luck.

I got about 20 sample cd`s in my sampler instruments folder, organized
in folders, subfolders.
Since a few days, some of my cd`s are not shown up by the exs.
Anybody know this problem ?
Hello!
Apologies if this has been discussed here recently (have been snowed
under with work this last 2 weeks) but I have found that under Logic
5, I cannot change instruments on my EXS24 after the initial loading.
If under LAWP 4.8 I wanted to try another instrument, I would simply
click in the instrument name bar in the centre of the EXS24 which
would bring up the menu of instruments I have on my HD. Now I can
only do this the first time after I load a song. After this, clicking
on the instrument bar has no effect, and I have to take the EXS24 out
of the insert point in the audio instrument mixer, and reload a new,
empty EXS in its place.
Has anyone else had this experience with Logic 5?
Regards
Guy
Typically after you moved your EXS samples and instruments to
new machine under Version 4, after the initial load of Logic, and
initial scan of EXS instruments, it went fast from there on out. My
problem with Logic 5 is that they simply aren't loading, no
processing, no searching.....? But if I drop back down to just one
or two instruments in the folder, it works fine? I may just do a
reinstall and see if there is any improvement, as EXS is taking
an extrordinarily long time to load as an instrument, all the other
virtual instruments pop right up, just the wasy EXS did in 4.8.1.
I'll continue to play with it and see if I can narrow it down
anymore, sorry if this was considered OT, I assumed most
people using Logic and Logic 5.0 were taking advantage of
EXS24.
Thanks for your help!
I have EXS24 running now, seems it doesn't like to load if V5 is
booted directly from the Logic V5 application , if I save Logic as a
file called "Template" to my desktop, it will load my full library
of
instruments fine.
Now it seems that Logic 5 is having troulbe booting from an
alias created on my desktop or a file for that matter.
I get errors saying that it can't find the application that created it,
and or can't find EXS.res.shel
Any ideas?
Thanks
Sorry to state the obvious, but you did transfer your "Sample
Instruments" folder from your v.4 folder to the new Logic 5 folder
didn't you?

I didn't 100% ly understand what you did, but the Logic application has
to reside in it's "own" folder. The missing Resfile might be a
result of
starting Logic from a wrong location (the Resfiles are searched in the
folder where the Logic app resides). So make sure that Logic is installed
correctly, and make a new alias from the Logic app and put it to your
desktop. Then you might drag your Template song on that Alias.
Perhaps you have several copies of Logic on your hard disk? Like this you
never know _which_ Logic app starts in case you double click a song (the
Finder will decide which one he will start).
And btw: you can save your Template as "Autoload" inside the Logic
folder, so Logic will open this song automatically when you launch (but
you sure know that ;-)

Yes, all running well know, just lots of trial and error,
Logic didn't want to recognize the instruments until I setup my
autoload. Before that, just booting up from the Logic 5
application, no EXS library.
I got about 20 sample cd`s in my sampler instruments folder, organized
in folders, subfolders.
