Subject: LAMP 4.8.1 Strange Behaviour of Emagic plugin graphics - help
Message #98167
Hi. Spent a lot of yesterday on system maintenance of my Mac - ran Norton Utillities Disk Editor, then Speed Disk. Also updated Quicktime as I had an alert that some of it needed updating and installed Appleworks 6 which I have obtained recently. Then rebooted Logic and went to add a couple of new samples to an EXS24 percussion kit, for a track I have nearly finished. The EXS24 graphics 'Controls' display is now black for the most part, with only the rotary controls showing as normal. I wondered if this was some sort of momentary glitch, as the previous plugin on view had been MDA Epiano, which has a largely black background. So I tried switching between various plugins. 3rd party plugins load up fine, GUI intact. EXS24, ES1, Platinumverb and any other more 'graphical' Emagic plugins have lost their GUIs, though the editor functions remain visible and intact. Has the Logic graphics engine gone wonky? How do I deal with this? As you can see, I have already run a general system check, before this had started. I regularly back up Preferences, but using the backup made no difference. My Mac is getting a little long in the tooth, but the setup works amazingly well and I can use lots of realtime plugins, with great latency on VST instruments. Setup: G3/233/320 RAM, 4 gig program drive, 4 gig audio drive, Adaptec 2940UW, AW8. I'm still on Mac OS 8.6. I did try upgrading to Mac OS 9.1, but had a lot of trouble with Logic and SoundDiver complaining about the stability of my serial port MIDI interface connection (Opcode Studio 64X) under OS 9.1 and frequent crashes, so I reinstalled the older system and it has been working really smoothly - a pleasure to use. I mean to hang on to this system until I can afford a much hotter G4 or later system, with a brand new MIDI interface, audio card, etc etc and in any case I am involved in a project in which I will set up a brand-new studio which will be Logic -based. So I'm hoping there's some help out there which doesn't involve OS upgrades and by extension Logic 5.0 as I don't have USB and don't know if it's worth while getting it for my beige box. Any suggestions gratefully received! TIA, Tony Thompson Mighty Wight Productions http://www.mightywight.net A Member of The Music Producers Guild UK http://www.mpg.org.uk

I have no idea whether Norton has caused the problems, but for what its worth I'd use Disk Warrior instead if I were you.
