just put a srewdriver in the ventilator,
or better, disconnect it from the motherboard.
that's a lot of peace and an extra heater in your studio.

Make sure the door to the computer is left open.
It'll definitely need to ventilation at this point.

This doesn't help: the CPU will die sooner or later by the heat. Turning the
fan off is the most stupid thing you can do.

What's that burning smell? Just your CPU and your bank balance going
up in smoke!!
If you don't like fan noise, invest in an Isobox or some similar kind
of acoustic attenuation.
Do you really think they'd put that fan in there just to annoy you?

I never would, although the Dual's CPU got it's own fan...
I placed the machine into another room behind the wall.
Some longer cables and a hole in the wall....
Paradise of silence..;-)

If you use an AMD system (or Pentium for that matter), never do this. THG
ran a test where they removed the fan/heatsink, and it took just 10 seconds
before the computer actually went up in flames. The whole thing just startet
to burn. This test was done just three month ago. AMD ar planning to make
the processor heat sensitive so it turns off the machine if it gets to warm,
but I don't think they've implemented it yet, anyway, AMD systems older than
three months have this "flaw".
NEVER EVER EVER remove or turn off the fan/ventilator. If you ever notice
the fan goes silent, immediately turn off your computer.
The only way to make your computer silent is to put it in another room.

Naaa.. Ibm Deskstar + Silverado CPU fans
(http://www.chillblast.com/reviews/silverado.htm) + one of the quiet
Power Supplies they sell at chillblast.com as well (Enermax or maybe
a "Noiseless Zalman" model will go a long way towards silence.. If
then really necessary you can always get some Magic Fleece noise
dampening cloth to put inside your case too.

I forgot to mention that if you do this, the only way your
computer won't fry is if the room is VERY well air conditioned
all the time, and there is no obstruction to the computer.
But it's still dangerous. And even when you turn your
computer OFF, there's a much longer "cooling off" period
compared to when the fan is directly in there turned on.
It's definitely a risk I would never take. It's vastly easier
and better and quieter to just buy longer cables and stick
it in an adjacent room. Or are some people in a one-room
shack somewhere?

When I add multiinstruments on my Unitor8mkII interface and then give them
each a keyboard and monitor on the Enviorment ... I end up with some
Instruments that show mulitple instances of each midi channel(1-16) when you
goto select them in the arrange window.
The following is a pic showing the problem.

Anyone know whats going on here? I turn the icons off for all the keyboards
and monitors.

Er....I find turning it off helps.

Quick! Put these extra synths up on ebay before they disappear!
But seriously, it's a long standing bug that is known to Emagic
and has been reported many times.
Workaround: Cut/Paste the offending multiinstrument, and it
ought to appear properly after this.

Just got back from Digiworld NYC.
Pretty cool stuff, (mostly 3rd party Pro Tools plug-in vendors).
But the most interesting thing was that eMagic's booth was completly
swamped.
People where standing about 4 deep the whole time I was there.
They where by far the busiest booth there.

Yes, the Logic 5.0's have officially invaded USA shores, got mine,
just beginning to install.
Awe Markus... it's not the MOST stupid thing...
I understand that as little as an 1/8 cup of water will cool the CPU right
down. ;-)
