Subject: GEN: Who needs hardware mixers anyway?
Message #98000
Feb 28th, 8pm (Mississauga, Canada) LAMP 4.73, OS9.22, Digi 001 & Alesis AI-3, lots of Lexicon & other FX in response to: many LUGGERS >It seems many people on this list use either a digital mixer or something >like the digimax for their A/D conversion, then combine that with >"pre-ampless" card like the RMEs to get into Logic. I do.....need an analog board that is! About 15 months ago I bought a Soundcraft Ghost 32 analog console because I like the sound & the flexibility of it. I could have bought digital but have no ADAT's or DA-88's, just lots of synths / FX / POD2 with 1/4" outs. I'm using about 54 inputs. The Ghost automation is also great. I use Hyperdraw to automate my mixes & run muting to my Ghost with sysex. I can recall mixes very quickly this way. I know many digital console users here who wish they had stayed analog, when they hear my mixes. But hey....I'm no snob...to each his own right! I must say though that the new Tascam digital console looks like a winner! Perhaps in another lifetime? * Having no luck re-authorizing SD 3.04...HELP privately please! Quite! I'm still using my Alesis Studio 24 to get sound into Logic. It's only a routing device really, as I currently don't have an outboard audio interface (GO CORE AUDIO DRIVER!) and I'm using the stero input on my PB! LoL. I can see why people would want the analogue sound - you very rarely get EXCELLENT mic pre's in a digital desk (but then again, you could always use a TLA front end or some junk!) - but with the advent of such quality 'all in ones' like the Tascam 1884 (want one!) I can totally see why people would move over to digi's.
