If done using ADAT there is no lossy conversions going on at all right?
The reason I've always heard people talk about doing it that way is for
zero-latency monitoring of real-time effects using software monitoring.
Maybe not to actually record to a new audio track (since bounce would do the
exact same thing) but for 0-latency monitoring of effects. There was a big
article on how to do this in the March 2002 issue of Sound on Sound, using
two separate Physical Inputs etc.
