I've started using the TC powercore, and find it has a quite notable
latency. I've tried to tick the Plugin delay compensation (or
whatever it's called) in the audio preferences, but apparently, this
has no effect, not even after restarting. Any ideas?
For the record:
G4 800
All the ram it can take
MOTU 2408
AMT8
LAP 4.8.1
thanx in advance
regards

The latency caused by the powercore was about 40 - 50 ms in my setup
( G4 Dual 450, Audiowerk 2 / Hammerfall).
Logic's new plugin- delay- compensation apparently is not working for the
busses or outs, only for the tracks.
Insert the tc- plugin into a track and it works.
If you insert the desired tc- plugin into a bus (or output object), you have
to
compensate in a different way....
You could run all the other tracks via a bus, into which you insert the
compensation plugin, that
comes with the powercore. This compensates for the latency by delaying all
the other
tracks. You even can even fine tune it.
And then there are the midi- tracks....
This is one of the nice features that made me return the powercore to the
dealer..;-)
Another one was a frequent crickle and crackle just before the first start
of the first
audio region going to the powercore....

Thanx. I was in fact trying to use it in a bus, so I'm definately
going to try putting it on an audio track instead.

Haven't had that problem at all with the MOTU setup...

So you're lucky... a friend of mine who has logic and a G4 400 mac and a
motu 2408
experiences the same crickle and crackle. But he
doesn't care, because it's only during the count in... he always has a
"dummy" region
there....
To him the advantages (extra dsp, good plugins) count more than that.
I can understand that, the plugins aren't bad at all indeed .....

Very nice to know. Perhaps the UAD-1 will be a better bet once the Mac
support is sorted...

In fairnes to the Powercore, it should be pointed out that the
latency problem applies to other cards as well (including the UAD-1)
and the problem with noise before the first audio region were
actually first reported on the UAD.
As you say, there are workarounds, and the companies involved will
want to get this right as quickly as possible. And besides, the sound
is great from both cards.
For Logic users, there is the possible bonus that the Powercore will
have versions of the more resource hungry Logic plugs written for it
by emagic. If it happens.
