Subject: OT-Re: Metronome samples
Message #1288
Actually, this is a fairly serious subject. I have found after years in the studio that very abrupt and pointed sounds such as claves used for clicks can be extremely bad for two reasons: 1. they tend to bleed into any mic source 2. they tend to contribute to ear fatigue and in long term scenarios hearing damage! This is especially true for drummers. (A common trick is to have the drummer use in-ear or smaller headphones while placing larger hearing protectors over these. This way the ambient drum sounds are diminished enough so that the musician doesn't have to blow his ears out while tracking in order to hear the beat.) Use a mellow hi hat sample and be glad you did!
