Hi
A few people have posted tips on partitioning but I am still unclear
about two things...
(1) What is the benefit of creating a small partition at the 'start'
of the harddisk with just Windows on it, and another partition with
audio software on it.
(2) Does this arrangement (OS on one partition, software on another)
have any drawbacks.
Thanks

No benefit at all as far as I see. But if you create them as "hidden
partitions" and install Windows in both of them you can benefit a lot
from
installing Logic in one partition and NOT too many other software in that
same partition. With a very stripped down Windows, and others software,
installation this system will free up more CPU resources for Logic, thus
meaning more tracks and plug-ins :)

The only thing I can think of is that every time you install a new program
you have to define where to install, as drive C usually is the installer
default.
It's also recommended to use a second drive, or a separate partition, for
storing the audio files you record with Logic.
Best wishes
