Just asked my brother (who designs heads for drives at Seagate) and he said not to worry about this. It's *not* like an automatic transmission. The accelerated tests have shown that these will last for at least 15-20 years with no problem. Also, keep in mind that this is a remarkably inexpensive product considering the technology involved. My brother wasn't sure, but his guess was that the wholesale cost of these was about $89. BTW, a cheap terrabyte drive is only about a year away. Have some sympathy for the HD manufacturers. They've come so far so fast that it's tough for them to turn a profit. A terrabyte could hold roughly 1,500 audio CD's worth of material (with no compression). That could keep you busy listening to 4-5 new CD's a day for a year. How much space do most of us really need? Lee Blaske

How much space do most of us really need? I agree. Hard Drive speed barrier has not been a problem for Pro Audio for a while now. If only the Processors were up to the task as much as the Hard Drives. Imagine that you do not have to mention plug- in counts and such. Future may be closer than we think.. Yavuz
