Is there a possibility to assign a mix group to a channel in
audio/track -mixer in Logic audio Platinum?
So I could control for example drums, vocal and Background vocal
levels seperately, without havong to send them to seperate busses.
(which is of course one way of doing this. Not a very convenient
though..)
If there`s anyone out there to help me, I´d be delighted... :)

AFAIK Nope...hard to believe huh? If you use one of your 16 busses
as a group master, you want have "post" Aux sends. That would
leave
your verb hanging when you pulled your bus down, for instance.
Personally, I think your idea of being able to assign an "audio
object" as a group master, is rated right up there with the wish for
"Aux Sends" on the busses. Don't know why it's not like that.
Actually
just making the track outputs assignable to any of the inputs in
addition to how it works now, would do it.
I work around that this way. Go to the Audio mixer environment, just
copy one the audio faders, and drag it off to itself. Now cable from
that over to the cable point on the first BGV track, and then jump
from there to the next one, and so one. You'll find that the faders
starting from the first one controls itself and all afterward, in that
cable run. Then just automate the highest fader in the chain, the
others will follow. You can even edit eq parameters on the top one,
and the others will follow.
The only downside, is it will make all the faders levels the same.
That's ok sometimes, but not always, so just rebalance the group using
the output level on any plugins that you might have inserted on each
of those tracks, or insert the "Volume Helper", and change the
gain on
the individual tracks.
That's a workaround for something easy like stack parts, BGVS, but a
Drum group, I don't think so. It'll probably get changed in an future
Logic update, but won't be documented right away. he he.
hope that works for you,

There is an easier way to do this.
Just assign the OUTPUT of the tracks that you want to group
to a bus. That bus now controls your group. You can insert fx on
that bus if you so desire.

Well yeeeahh, but I may not want that much verb on my Kick drum, and
cymbals, but in many cases that would fine, like with BGVs.
d :)
Wouldn't this be the purpose of assigning buses to other buses? Say
assign your drums to bus1 with whatever effects, guitars to bus2
with...
Then assign the ones you want to group to bus 5 for example, with no
FX. Now bus 5 controls the whole group.
have i oversimplified it? I've only just started with LAWP and this
is the first thing that makes sense ;)
hope it helps,

That is a workaround that just might be a good one. I'n not sure, if
you meant this, but assign your tracks that you want to group
together to a bus, also on those tracks have aux sends to your effect,
which is returned on a bus, that is assigned to the same bus as the
tracks. That way when you pull the bus for that group the effects
return will be pulled also. I'm just wondering if the relative balance
between the dry and wet are maintained. I'm gonna try that.
That's a good one....EOS,

Hi David,
next time you are online at Rocketnetwork , talk to lynnmonk if you see her,
she has got this set up already.
A tip. make sure you choose higher order bus objects as the master faders
, since lower order must send to higher order.
