Subject: XG WISH LIST - please reply
Message #6242
Hi There! First I would like to start with my background - I have been with C-LAB/Emagic from 1988. In 94 I moved over to logic and this year to logic audio gold. The power of the editors is excellent as it is quick and easy. Logic is the main music program I use in my studio. I would like to keep it that way, too! I am a music teacher in Brisbane Australia and have around 85 private students. About 40 of these students have XG instruments in their own home! I work with the students to make XG backing tracks for their pieces, but I am finding it just tooo hard in logic to do basic tasks! NOW FOR THE LIST I have a big wish for logic and XG midi control! I am interested to see if anybody else has the same views or are along the same track. If enough people ask for it, we may even get it!!! I believe that XG is a standard that many people around the world are using. It seems strange that Logic doesn't support it directly. This list is not in any order. WISH 1: Environment Logic needs a special mutli-instrument setup with all of the XG sounds listed in groups. Just like XG works (yamaha) and XG edit. That way it will become very easy to select any sound without remembering the number. WISH 2: Arranger As well as Program, Volume and Pan, I think you should have the option to include some of the XG filters - eg. res, brightness etc. WISH 3: File-Export The XG voices to export correctly. For some reason, when you select a sound in logic it plays correctly, however when you export to a midi file and play in a Yamaha XG disk player (keyboard), all you get is the basic GM sounds, not the extended XG sounds. It seems that logic is not following the standard that Yamaha has outlined for use of the XG voice sets when it comes to exporting midi files. It should also have the option to include a XG reset at the start of the file. WISH 4: File-Export Export wizard to export the complete song (or selected tracks) without having to merge, normalize track events, insert instrument settings as events, etc, etc. This takes toooo long, and for somebody like me who mainly usese logic for midi, it is a real pain!! WISH 5: Track mixer Logic to send the settings of the track mixer on load. At present, it seems that you need to record it into a track first. WISH 6: XG RESET on load song You have the option to perform a XG reset every time you load a song. Sometimess, not all settings are loaded which you can get some strange results! WISH 7: XG Panic A panic button that turns off all notes - the one included in logic never works - everytime I get stuck notes, I have to exit logic and restart to fix! WISH 8: Track Mixer - effects Logic should let you select the reverb, chorus and variation effects. You should then be able to change the peramatres just like you can with the logic internal DSP effects. WISH 9: Sustain bug fix - Arranger When in the arranger and working with a sustain pedal, if you change tracks while the pedal is down, the last track just keeps sustaining. I think that this is a basic bug that needs to be fixed in the next release!! Please let me know through this group, what you think of my wish list! Thanks Brad.
