Alexis; See even the guys at Lucas film use the Miro DC-30, if you just need to compose music and add some special FX then you can do it with LE, if you are talking about serious hard core SFX for post then NOT, I would not even use Logic for that. 1- You need to have more accurate sync than MTP, Wordclock and sample based sync in that senario "I know that the Audiowek 8 resolves wordclock, another emagic brilliance" 2-what you do is, capture your movie "I am sure your friend will give it to you on a Umatic, Beta, VHS " through the Unitor 8 timecode burn in window. 3- import the Quick time movie into your Protools LE session and go to work, you should be able to see the time code on the Quicktime movie "better be a high resolution one" 4- to dump it back, bounce the mix into a stereotrack, and do the import the audio into your movie, then do the sync to video in Logic, but I would not do this, you can always place a reference click at the beginning of your mix and dump your tracks to whatever medium you wish, as long as you marked down the SMPT location of your click "referencing the quick time movie " your editor friend should be able to place your music in sync with the rest. 5- there is no reason why you should not be able to place your "special treatments" to time code in this setup, I would recommend you work with quick time rather that a VCR. 6-Yes it takes more than adding the SMPT to protools to make it sync right, and that price range Digi has the right to not include this....
