Man, I never going to get into audio, am I. Thank you Mike for asking for alternative solutions. That is what I am begging for anyway. >>league "like TDM". Digi's 001 is just like an imac, its cheap and it has its >>audience. I got my mom an imac and I don't think she will complain about the >>lack of expansion slots or the firewire yet "who knows?" .. > >I wouldn't compare the 001 to an imac - the imac is stripped down to keep >the cost down and still can be used for high-end work in many fields. The >001 is missing software features that would cost digi nothing to add, and >are only missing because digi wants to intentionally keep "professionals" >(whatever that means) from buying it (under the assumption that they will >get TDM systems instead). Digi COULD offer the additional features as a >software upgrade, but they won't. So anyone have any recommendations for >good alternatives to the 001? See, that is a good statement...However, doesn't digi understand that a High end studio is not going to want to use a host based system for ADR, special fx or even high end music production. It is just not feasible for them. Ahh, well maybe they will figure that out on their own. However, just to get some insight, let me give you guys a scenario of my intent of using the Digi 001: Peter and Bashar both have been kind enough to help me with their opinions on the matter at hand. Thank you Peter and Bashar. However some extra advice would not hurt either. So, here it is. 1) your my friend, and you're cutting a special fx session and later on adding in your ADR to the session. 2) You call me up, because you don't have time to get some music in...besides, you now want some specific treatments. But, it is cutting close on time and there is still more to do. 3) you send me the file with preview clips of the scenes you want music for. (Of course, there would references with SMPTE in these files, right?) 4) I compose the music, in logic (or whatever else), then I get it all tracks into ProTools 5.0 LE. But, I do very tight and specific musical treatments that coincide with some of the FX and ADR treatments. 5) Then send the file(s) back to you with all my edits with the musical treatment that you can then merge into your session. Will timecode be essential to you in this case? Personally, I thought it would...perhaps I am wrong. As you can see, it just doesn't seem right that I would have to buy a TDM system just to do something like this...or does it. > >Mike > >_________ >Mike Connelly, Sound Designer >mpc@... / http://www.mcs.net/~mpc/ > >Check out zzounds music: >http://www.zzounds.com/index.music?f!69 TIA, I appreciate it...
