I own a pulsar and I love it : but I use it mainly as a sound source
Need to buy a bigger PC to make the combination work - and I have not yet
the time to do serious work on them. So I wait with the purchase(of the PC)
I use a separate PC for midi only running logic :-)
It is slowly replacing all my synths except the K2000 and the VL 70 for my
wx-5 ( blow synth)
The asio implementation of logic is not so good so the amount of channels
to record simultanuously is rather limited 12 chnnels I have seen reported.
The Pulsar needs lots of RAM Think of 256 MB. and a fast processor to move
the data around
I saw there is a guy who has a athlon and record 24 channels simultaniously
.
Creamware/Emagic are/is working hard to develop easi to make the
combination logic / Pulsar to work better. Expect EASI to be finished in
October.
There are lots of free modules around FX synrhs , tube preamp, FM synths
analogue , compressor limiters etc.
If you want I can sent you privat some digests ( in german ) and or keep
you up to date about the progress.

Frank W. Kooistra
What you don't realise is that if you use it only as a sound source, then
you are fine. E-Magic Logic 4.0+ won't work with it reliably.
I have just been at Southampton University where they have two LogicPulsar
machines and the only way I could get them to work even vaguely was to
re-install 3.6 This situation is no good for them as they have around 40
copies of 4.0 in their MIDI room and there is no backwards compatibility.
My personal situation is that if LOGIC would work with Pulsar I would have
saved a whole pile of money upgrading to PIII450 256MB RAM UDMA66 and so on.
In truth LOGIC 4.0 won't work as reliably as 3.6 even with the Audiowerk 8,
or the DS2416, the Soundblaster Live! Soundscape Mixtreme or any of the
other cards I have tried.
The main issue seems to be reliable sync of audio and MIDI and for me using
an AW8 the fact that the sequencer jumps every so often and slows down when
rendering reverbs etc in real time. It doesn't look professional and even
untrained ears I am working with are noticing it...
My friend tells me Cubase is rock solid and works perfectly with the
Creamware ASIO drivers. I have Cubase and I am going to test it this week.
If it works then I need to go that route. What really sucks is that I paid
£99 for un upgrade that has left me
completely frustrated and has slowed
down my working day considerably.
I appreciate that E-Magic are probably doing everything they can to address
the issue. Currently my recommendation would be to use Cubase if you are
using anything but an AW8 and tht even if you are using AW8 it isn't going
to be perfect. As far as Pulsar goes, forget it, but be assured that it
isn't a Creamware issue. Pulsar works really well with everything else on my
machine.
I'll let you know about Cubase.
All the best
Mark
