Well I hate to put the dampers on this but running this patch to this
drive definately degrades performance. What it actually does is
reduce the acceleration of the actuator between seeks, thus
reducing performance. Your statement above 'You can decrease
the noise of your drives. However, It decreases your performance
as well.' is correct, so unless you really need to reduce the noise
for some strange reason then don't do it. I cannot think of anyone
who would need to do this. If the drive is making that much noise to
cause a problem then it needs to be in a different room, or in a
different box with better acoustic damping. Reducing the noise level
of a single disk drive is not going to make a huge difference to the
overall noise level when you take everything else into account.
